Pepe the Frog emoticons have been removed from the Steam Marketplace
Pepe the Frog first appeared in 2005 in Matt Furie's comic Boy's Club, but courtesy of the efforts of 4chan and other sites is better known, in the online world at least, as a meme. It's taken on an uglier connotation in more recent years, however, as a sort of mascot of the alt-right, which led Furie to take a more aggressive approach to protecting his IP rights. That effort, as Motherboard reported in September, resulted in legal notices being served to Richard Spencer, Baked Alaska, Mike Cernovich, Reddit, and Amazon.
Now Furie has turned his attention to Steam.

WoW mod replaces every critical hit with Owen Wilson saying 'Wow!'
Owen Wilson's famous "wow! " might be just a meme, but in the right context it can make anything seem impressive and cool. That's just how I feel every time my Demon Hunter in World of Warcraft scores a critical hit now that I've installed this mod by redditor 'SweetsourNostradamus.'

EIDOS Montreal has created some truly amazing single-player games. However, all of this is about to change. David Anfossi, head of studio at EIDOS Montreal, has revealed that the studio will now emphasize on online experiences. And we are pretty sure that Tomb Raider and Deus Ex fans did not ask for this.

>>Did anyone else had chills when reading this? Well, someone did because they've clarified the statement.

Eidos Montreal’s David Anfossi: “We do not give up the narrative single-player games, stay tuned for news”
A couple of days ago, we informed you about EIDOS Montreal focusing on online gaming experiences. Part two of today's news:

Sea of Thieves' new video teaches you how to become a pirate
Sea of Thieves, Rare’s multiplayer pirate romp, won’t be out until March, but the devs are betting that you’ll want to know what you’ll actually be able to do in its nautical world before it launches. The latest video cuts off a vertical slice, showing off the game’s trading companies (the factions you’ll be doing quests for), missions and multiplayer shenanigans.

PUBG will add map selection sometime after its launch from Early Access
With Playerunknown's Battlegrounds exit from Early Access coming in just a few days, changes and tweaks are still underway on the test server, which is hosting 1.0's new desert map, Miramar. If you've been playing—and a lot of you have, seeing as how PUBG's test servers are the 5th most played game on Steam—you may be happy to learn that sometime after launch you'll be able to choose which map you play on when you join a PUBG server.

Fortnite Battle Royale adds a new 'Battle Pass' for season two
The second season of Fortnite Battle Royale is now underway, with a new Battle Pass that provides immediate access to cosmetic loot is now available for purchase. The pass goes for 950 Vbucks and is tiered, meaning that it will unlock some items immediately, but must be leveled up for others.

Verdun's Christmas Truce DLC returns next week
The 1914 Christmas Truce is once again returning to the First World War multiplayer Verdun in the form of time-limited DLC that will raise funds for War Child's Armistice, "an annual event that encourages peaceful gameplay to support children affected by conflict across the world." The DLC will reenact the events of the famous, tragically brief truce that saw French, German, and British soldiers come together to exchange gifts, take part in joint burial ceremonies and prisoner swaps, and even play a little soccer.

Whimsical sandbox My Time At Portia is due out on early access in January
My Time At Portia is a breezy, whimsical crafting sandbox that calls to mind the likes of Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing. It’s idyllic and bright and I want to start building my workshop there right now, escaping the chilly Scottish winter I’m trapped in. Unfortunately, like the rest of you, I’ll need to wait until January 23, when the game launches on early access. In the meantime, we’ll have to content ourselves with a new, but brief, trailer.

Bomber Crew gets Secret Weapons DLC, a season pass, and a free Winter Update
Bomber Crew, the FTL-esque take on the air war over Europe, got a new DLC pack today called Secret Weapons that includes a new "mini-campaign," with new bomber upgrades, enemy aces, and dangerous enemy fighters. The campaign will take players through missions based on Big Week, a real-world operation that took place in early 1944 in which the US Air Force undertook an aggressive campaign to force the Luftwaffe to engage in direct, decisive combat.

Mount Your Friends sequel will deliver 3D dongs next year, and here's the trailer to prove it
It's as if Daniel Steger, the designer of Mount Your Friends, saw those overly snug underpants in PUBG and said, "Hold my beer."
Mount Your Friends, released in 2014, was a gleefully silly multiplayer game about muscular pinheads clambering over each other in speedos with their physics-enabled wangs wobbling about. It's just had a sequel announced, called Mount Your Friends 3D: A Hard Man is Good to Climb. It looks every bit as ridiculous and, yes, it still has huge flappy wiggling dongs in it.

Tokyo 42 update aims to fix troublesome camera without actually changing the camera at all
Andy's biggest problem with gorgeous open-world shooter Tokyo 42 was its camera: as he wrote in his review, the isometric perspective combined with the 45-degree rotation increments (you hit Q and E to move it this way and that) means you occasionally lose your character in the city sprawl. A new update for the game aims to address that, but the camera itself isn't changing. Instead, you can now see both your own silhouette and silhouettes of enemies through buildings and objects.

Galactic Civilizations 3 update improves AI and slashes load times
Galactic Civilizations 3, the sprawling 4X space strategy game, is more than two years old but it's still getting regular updates. In the summer it got an expansion, Crusade, with a new campaign, and in September the UI and economy improvements from Crusade were integrated into the base game. A new update out this week improves the AI, slashes load times, and fixes a host of annoying crashes during the end game and multiplayer matches.

Night in the Woods director's cut out now, adds two extra side stories
Weird Autumn is story-driven adventure game Night in the Wood's version of a director's cut: it's a free update that adds new dialogue, extra activities and a couple of fresh faces to meet. It also ushers in two supplementary side stories, Longest Night and Lost Constellation, both standalone (if short) games in their own right. They were released on their own during Night in the Wood's development, but now they're integrated into the main game's world.

Friday the 13th adding offline mode with bots and raising the level cap
Friday the 13th's asymmetrical multiplayer horror was made to play with friends, or at least with strangers that have mics and are willing to work together. But developer IllFonic is betting that players will want to muck around solo sometimes, and are adding a new offline game mode with bots tomorrow.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive might be getting a PUBG-style battle royale mode
As you might have noticed, the battle royale genre is as popular now as it's ever been. Games like PUBG, Fortnite and H1Z1 have struck a chord with players, and a number of other games now include their own interpretations of the genre—not least GTA Online and Ark: Survival Evolved. Now, it appears Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is next in line for the battle royale treatment.

Planet Coaster launches Adventure Pack update with hundreds of new items
Planet Coaster celebrated its one year anniversary last month with new rides, a scenario editor and a Staff Management building. Now, its Adventure Pack update adds a further three rides and a number of cosmetic additions—not least over 320 scenery items.

Need for Speed Payback adds new cars and events in free Speedcross update
In his middling review, Phil Iwaniuk praised Need For Speed Payback's "enjoyable arcade handling", but criticised its scope to become "monotonous long before it rewards your time investment." The racer's latest complimentary update arrives tomorrow, and hopes to give players more bang for their buck with a new event series and new cars.

Latest Monster Hunter: World trailer shows how you customise your feline companions
In Monster Hunter: World you'll be slaying nasties alongside a cute companion called a Palico. They're essentially feline assistants that will help you out during battles and quests, and given that they're constantly at your side you'll probably want to make them your own. Thankfully, a new trailer suggests that the customisation options for your Palicos will be pretty robust.

Monster Hunter: World's story campaign will last 40-50 hours
The Monster Hunter series is poised to make its western PC debut with Monster Hunter: World next year, which is something Steven and Austin seem pretty pleased about. Last week, we learned that Capcom plans to add new beasts over time via free updates, and now it appears its core story campaign will last somewhere in the vicinity of 40-50 hours.

Forged Battalion, the RTS from the creators of C&C, has an Early Access release date
Forged Battalion is Petroglyph's next game—a highly customisable RTS where you're tasked with building and managing your own faction. Announced back in October, it's now got an Early Access release date: January 16, 2018.

Tuesday news, part two:

Development of The Culling has come to a halt
It's been well over a year since we last looked at the small-scale battle royale game The Culling. It was "sloppy but fun," we said in our March 2016 analysis, "and it's easy to see why it instantly became a Steam top seller and a popular show on Twitch." But the battle royale scene now is a lot different than it was then: The Culling has been utterly eclipsed by PUBG, and just a couple of months after it finally came out of Early Access the developers at Xaviant are moving on to other things.

Destiny 2's Three of Coins consumable is bugged, and Fated Engrams might be too
The Destiny 2 update that rolled out last week added, among quite a number of other things, a Three of Coins consumable sold by Xur that the patch notes said "increases the drop chance of Exotics." But following a weekend of play, an awful lot of people came away feeling like it wasn't working like it was supposed to, and maybe wasn't working at all.

The Destiny 2: Fall of Osiris comic contains a secret code for a special emblem
The first issue of the Destiny 2: Fall of Osiris digital comic that Bungie announced last week is now live, and there's a surprise buried within its pages: A secret code that will net you and other intrepid Guardians who can solve its multifaceted mystery a super-exclusive emblem for The Visionary. Well, exclusive until it gets spilled all over the web, which I'm about to do...

Astroneer research update makes huge changes to research and power systems
Astroneer, you may recall, is a crafty little survival game set in space. Chris gave it a look earlier this year, and developer System Era Softworks has been plugging away at it in Steam Early Access ever since. Its latest update is a doozy, and brings sweeping changes to the research system.

>>And the game is 20% off until January 4th, so you know how much it will be during the Steam Winter sale.

Retro FPS Dusk has a free multiplayer closed beta right now
Dusk, the retro-styled first-person shooter that kinda looks like a 1980s Slayer album cover in action, is getting a multiplayer mode. According to the trailer below, it's "not deathmatch", but instead Duskmatch. But as you'll see it is, basically, deathmatch.

'Perma-permadeath' game Upsilon Circuit has been cancelled
Upsilon Circuit, the fascinating game which limited players to one single life, has been cancelled. Studio Robot Loves Kitty made the announcement today, citing funding as the "primary" issue, though there's quite a bit to it.

>>Shocking, right?. Who could have thought that people wouldn't want to buy a game that you can only play once?

Dying Light launches free 'Content Drop #2' with new gun silencer
Despite closing in on its three-year anniversary, Dying Light remains determined to treat its players to complimentary goodies. Content Drop #2 is live now and brings with it a new, much-requested gun silencer.

Maniac Mansion out now on Steam with limited-time discount
Over the last several years, a number of LucasArts classics have been remastered—not least The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango and Full Throttle. One game which hasn't been reworked for a modern audience is 1987's Maniac Mansion, but it's nevertheless landed on Steam and is subject to a limited-time discount.

>>That's not the only old/classic game that has landed on Steam. Three Disney classics from the 16-bit era have also appeared on the store: Aladdin, The Lion King and The Jungle Book. All three of them have a 33% discount that will last until the end of the upcoming sale.

Total War: Warhammer 2 Rise of the Tomb Kings DLC release date set
Since its reveal in March, barely a week has passed without Total War: Warhammer 2 giving us something to report on. This is of course testament to its scope and scale, which is one of the reasons we named it our Best Strategy Game of 2017. As of next month, the Tomb Kings will storm the turn-based strategy game's war-torn battlegrounds with new units, Legendary Lords, quest chains, skills and more.

I second that comment, all the free games I have dowloaded thru his hard work.  A big thanks

I'm tempted to make a thread on why Steam isn't a magical and all powerful "monopoly", based on the fact that the other storefronts do jack shit towards gaining all the games that Steam has, as well as fully supporting indie devs.

EA doesn't support the indie scene. Their store only has a tiny handful of non EA based AAA games and it absolutely pales in comparisson to the AAA games Steam has. EA has done nothign to rectify that.

Blizzard only sells Blizzard/Activision owned titles on their storefront. Nothing else and no mod support outside of SC I/II and WC III/FT, both of which aren't included with their game client/ You have to go to their online storefront in order to get that game and it's exp pack. THey haven't even gone out of their way to make it so you can play their oldest titles from their client either.

Bethesda only sells bethesda published/owned titles from their client, which is already a very minute library on it's own.

Ubisoft sells their games on Steam, but requrie you to use their client. Their storefront sells a couple of indie supported games (a very small few), but the vast majority being sold are titles owned by them. like EA, they only sell a tiny handful of non Ubisoft owned AAA titles.

GoG's business is making sure older titles work with modern OS's. They sell a few AAA games and some indie titles, but again, nothing of the same scale that Steam sells.

Everyone but GOG hasn't bothered to compete with Valve in terms of obtaining all the good non trash titles to their storefronts. Hardly any of them fully support the modding scene and they all mostly sell games they've own or publish. GoG still has a long way to go, but they are second to steam, while the rest sink below the two storefronts.

You want that "monopoly" to end?, ask for the competition to work their asses as hard as they can. They should be out there courting all the indie devs to sell from their store, as well as supporting them. They should all be aiming for as much mod support as possible. Steam has their Steam workshop, as well as forum guides for each game that allows for guides on outside modding. I don't care if anyone on this site doesn't give two shits about indie or mods, but I do, and I'll not see a company driven under because a few here don't care about those two aspects of PC gaming. I love indie games and I love modding them, especially AAA games that come out busted, where the modding community is basically a second safety net.
