The US PS3 can play all PS2 games.

Good I would love to compare the Sony PS2 and Nintendo Wii sales figures. IMO it terms of price point and perfomance the Nintendo Wii is much closer to the PS2 than to the PS3. So personally I view the PS2 and Nintendo Wii more as competitors than the Nntendo Wii and PS3.

I would love to see the ps2 sales too, but not for the cost of accuracy. I personally think that PS3 vs Wii is very intressting, at least in Japan were Wii is selling more than PS2 and PS3 combined.

I do not think that the price point for the Wii and PS2 is that equal, I mean the Wii cost 250 USD and the PS2 cost 129 USD. Thats almost a 2:1 ratio, or similar to xbox360 vs Wii.

Other than that, yes thank you for the PS2 data, if you can give it to us with good enough accuracy if not, skip it.

I think with regard to PS2 hardware sales the Japanese market may have hit a point of market saturation (Japanese gamer penetration), but globally new PS2 hardware sales still seem to be outperforming Nintendo Wii hardware sales so far. With regard to new Japanese software sales the PS2 still leads over the Nintendo Wii, but if you look at Famitsu's gamer wishlist it's dominated by major PS3 titles, so I think when they are released the PS2 hardware sales will steadily decrease and PS3 hardware sales will steadily increase in course of time.

Currently there's not that much of interest within the PS3's software library for Japanese gamers, mainly Gundam Musou so far which sold much better than any XBox 360 game released in Japan so far, despite the platform's one year headstart.

IMO it's bad the Nintendo Wii is sold out at this point, as IMO this is when Nintendo should reap what they've sown. IMO the Nintendo Wii and PS2 are both very current generation products.

However I think when the first real blockbuster next generation games start to appear the Nintendo Wii will go through much harder times. IMO before this Nintendo needs to sell as quickly as possible. Note that I personally predicted a fast initial uptake of the Nintendo Wii and a slow initial uptake of the PS3 in the past. I think the PS2 will have another strong year overall, last year it outperformed the Nintendo Wii, globally this may still be the case for this year.

Regarding price, 250 dollar is closer to 130 dollar than it's to 600 dollar nomatter how you look at it.

This is like complaining about the paint job on a house while they're still laying down the concrete foundation. Settle down and give the site time to grow people. 

I've heard this story before.

There was a system that had superior graphics, greater processing power, better multimedia capability, better games like GTA.

The other system was gimmicky, lower power, poorer performance. This weak, underpowered system could never meet the public's demand and was always sold out.

Anyone want to take a guess which system won?

[sarcasm] Yes but in 3 years time PSP will be selling millions as games finally come out that take full advantage of it while DS will be dead [/sarcasm] If Wii outsells both PS3 and X360 this year and it costs 1/2 as much to make a game for Wii then the 3rd party support will swing massively. Games companies exist to make money after all...

Don't worry ioi, you've got a lot of unspoken support...don't hurt yourself over a few complaints.

i'm sorry if my comments seemed rude, i understand the amount of effort that goes into this site and VG charts have done an excellent job of implementing weekly charts for the U.S. My only gripe is that you could include ps2 into the final monthly sales summary. It was being done before. Any idea how much the TMNT games sold on the PS2 and GBA ???
