You would be incorrect, sorry to say. That port in the image shows the actual audio port. It's proprietary and thus why MS needs to create an adaptor for compatibility.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Do you have a source for that, outside of deduction from looking at an image? Because it sure looks like a microUSB port to me, looking at the headset linked here: http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/e3-accessories
Which would make sense, as microUSB has audio I/O.

That connector is wider than a micro usb.

Yeah, I'm buying an expensive headset for my Wii U and PS4. I only need one expensive headset because it'll work with both systems and countless other devices.
However, I can't say the same about buying an expensive headset for something else...
