Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One headset compatibility confirmed; will have adapter to use Xbox 360 headset

I'm guessing between $5-10 for the adapter and $20.00-30.00 for the headset.

Micro-USB - 3.5mm jack adaptors are cheap and available already.

That probably won't work since that port is probabaly for charging only. The audio out is proprietary from what I understand.

My understanding is the headset is standard micro-USB, which is common on phones now too.

You would be incorrect, sorry to say. That port in the image shows the actual audio port. It's proprietary and thus why MS needs to create an adaptor for compatibility.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Do you have a source for that, outside of deduction from looking at an image? Because it sure looks like a microUSB port to me, looking at the headset linked here: http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/e3-accessories

Which would make sense, as microUSB has audio I/O.

Official microsoft specsheet? Countless media sites covering the fact that the X1 controller's audio is proprietory?

That connector is wider than a micro usb.

Fair enough.

I'd much rather buy another expensive headset than a cheap little adapter.

Yeah, I'm buying an expensive headset for my Wii U and PS4. I only need one expensive headset because it'll work with both systems and countless other devices.

However, I can't say the same about buying an expensive headset for something else...
