Forums - Sony Discussion - Gamespot: Sony cut PS Eye from PS4 to beat Xbox One price

Makes sense, Ive pre-ordered the PS eye with my PS4 anyway. I would like to see more info on what Sony intend on doing with it as there Playroom tour using the PS eye looked interesting.

Its a good move for now but when the consoles are similarly priced next year it won't be as smart as a move. MS will drop the price to $399 next fall or earlier and I don't see Sony dropping the price for at least a couple years.

Almost nobody wants to pay more for a "forced bundle" before the value of bundled items prove their worth to the consumer.

Detractors will say how having the upgrade option available to consumers is a "bad" thing because it's an option, not a requirement which means not everyone has to buy one and developers will develop with this in mind. Of course, this ignores the fact that not all developers are going to bother using camera or voice recognition features in their games. Safe bet says, most won't.

Well played Sony.

At any rate, I'd rather buy a $60 PSEye4 later along with the first game that convinces me to buy one. Unless SCE was bundling the camera in an SKU that was only $50 or less more, there is absolutely no incentive for me as a consumer to buy one at launch.

Video/voice recognition was never a integral part of PS4 when it was anounced in February so I'm sure they were already leaning towards cutting it out regardless of Kinect.

it was like the first feature they talked about with the new DS4... Now that lightbar is pretty useless and will be underused.. pretty sure that the new ps eye was to be meant more integral to the ps4

The light bars still light up a different color depending on the player which to me is great. Also when the battery is dying, it starts glowing yellow which is pretty neat. It's up to developers to integrate the light bar, like in transistor, the light bar glows whenever the sword speaks just like in the game.

Consumers don't know what they want and they hold us back.  Thats why studying marketing is so much fun and annyoing at the same time.

I dont buy it, they never try to force the Eye on consumers. They beat MS in buying their parts from AMD and getting the edge over them there. There was a rumor before the Xbox was unveiled that Microsoft was irrate with AMD after the Sony unveiling. I would take that to be truer than this.

What would impede Sony from dropping the price too?

"Sources"
Sources, gotta be the same sources that told about drm in ps4, about changing everything in last minute, ms, that's just pathetic.
Just tired from this "sources", stupidity on every step.
