Forums - Sony Discussion - Gamespot: Sony cut PS Eye from PS4 to beat Xbox One price

What rubbish. If PSEye is going to retail for $60 (at a substantial profit margin I would think) then Sony could have launched PS4 at $449 with Eye bundled and make less of a per unit loss than a non-Eye PS4.

Actually a $449 PS4 with Eye would have been a better move IMO.

This is now the 2nd time this quote has been used on VG today.

This time it seems unapplicable though. What do you mean? Or are you just trying to be smart?

I think that they're trying to compare the automobile and assembly line to a console that shares a lot of similarities with an already available PC.

LOL WHAT.

That's not what that quote means. It means that Ford did something new and unprecedented and didn't base his modus operandi on the general consensus of the populace.

LOL.

I know, I was speaking about the difference in impact between what Ford did and what Microsoft is trying to do.

No wonder I get banned so often for calling people dumb.

(not you btw)

The original SKU, if true, had to have included more than just the camera if it was going to be $500. Gotta love "sources".

PS4 + 1TB HDD + 2x Dual Shock 4 + PS Eye + PS Move

using this drive,

Seagate 1TB SSHD Solid State Hybrid Drive

or a 240gb SSD capacity might me small but performance will be the key point

for $500 they would include a basic HDD probably somthing like this,

Samsung 1TB HN-M101MBB Spinpoint M8

Current PC build:

Asus Z97I-Plus, i5 4790K @ 4.6ghz, EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 1377/1853/124%, Corsair Vengence Pro 2400mhz 2x 8192mb, Corsair RM850, Corsair H80i, 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, 750GB Seagate Momentus XT SSHD, 320GB Weston Digital HDD, Corsair 230T, Corsair K50 Raptor, HP XQ500AA mouse, Windows 10 Pro 64bit. iiyama Pro Lite G2773HS 120Hz 1Ms G2G gaming monitor.

Greatly devalues the PS Eye for the entire Gen. If the main penalty for including it is only price parity with one of your competitors, not sure if that is worth it. Feels more like a lack of confidence in it's worth.

Is that so?

I think a good portion of multiplatform titles will have Kinect features, most of which should be available to PS4 Eye owners aswell. And most first party titles will make sure to include some Eye functionality anyway, so in my opinion there could be quite a lot of PS4Eye support due to the Kinect.

That's certainly possible.  I'd imagine that the same ones complaining about Kinect being forced on us will gladly go purchase a PS Eye at that point and preach about it's value, completely missing the hypocritical irony (see PS+ mp requirement response) ...

Smart decision, but nobody will buy a PS Eye now. If Sony wanted to sell it as a seperate device then they should have made it as powerful as the Kinect 2.0.

Hmm. So if the camera is $60 then I wonder what the $499 sku will include?

That's a lot of maybes and assumptions to make your complaint fit your agenda.

They've always given people the choice. I think the article is bullshit because Sony has never forced the eyetoy in any of their Playstations for two generations now. This would be the third and they still haven't really sold it to the audience.

if the camera cost $60 how the hell the cost of the console would have been $500? At most I see it costing $450 as it is being bundled.
