Forums - Sony Discussion - 20 Exclusives, 12 New Franchises Coming to PlayStation 4 in Year One

Sony's first-party studios have 30 games in development for the PlayStation 4, 20 of which are due to release within a year of the console's launch and 12 of which are new franchises.

"At the event in New York on February 20 of this year, we showed a lot of software," he explained. "We showed a lot of first-party software. What we did at E3 here was really show some updates to those games, and, as you mentioned, introduce The Order: 1886. There’s a lot coming.

"I’m sure you heard from [SCE Worldwide Studios boss] Shu [Yoshida] that he has—just his studios—he has 30 games in development. 20 of them are going to ship within the first year of the console’s life, and of those, 12 are new IP.

"So there’s a lot going on, it’s just that we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans—we need to have something to show at Gamescom, don’t we?"

At the moment, the first-party exclusives we've seen for the PlayStation 4 are DriveClub, Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son and The Order: 1886. It sounds like this list will grow following Gamescom, which is taking place between August 21 and 25.

I am optimistic

So 20 (from which 12 are new IP) compared to 15 (from which 8 are new IP) in the first year after launch.

We have a winner.

They need at least 5 big AAA games in addition to the ones already announced till April 2014 to score the equaliser against the Xbox One.

So far, they are lacking behind. Big time.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I don´t think so. We don´t know what kinds of titles those are. Some of them acertainly are PSN titles. I prefer qality over quantity.

Your opinion lol

I prefer inFAMOUS and Killzone over any other launch game for Xbone... if Xbone have Halo I think it would be different.

I would like to see the curtain drawn from both sides. I am not a fan of the heavily integrated kinect games, so those are out of the equation for me. As for Sony, I could not care less about 90% of the indie stuff I see on the market, so it is my hope a larger number of these games are AAA (or just disc based) titles.

All in all ... Sony played their hand rather skilfully. They barley showed anything at E3 and now they have enough material to show over the course of the year. Providing these titles are perceived well, it should inspire confidence and have positive effects on their stocks (not to mention sales of the hardware).

hahahahah you are a really funny man. Sony has already announced more triple A exclusives for the PS4 then MS for the Xbone. And at least two of the announced PS4 exlusives look promising unlike Dead Rising 3 or Ryse.

This, but just Infamous for me.  Both systems exclusives look pretty crappy in my opinion.

Feel Free to name those PS4 AAA games.

- Killzone
- InFamous SS (and after InFamous 2 only sold 50% of the original, this is not a massive popular franchise)
- The Order
- Maybe DriveClub (The developers of Motorstorm never made a big AAA game before)

And Please don't come up with Knack.

I don´t know. I mean Driveclub is free for PS+ members, Knack and Killzone could be good. But Infamous seems to be a great game at leat according to the things the press people say about it.

On the other Hand. Forza 5 will be fantastic thats for sure, and altough not an exclusive Titanfall might be the next big thing, and Ryse could be good if the combat is better then what we have seen at the E3 press conference. The only game that looked like garbage was Dead Rising 3.
