If they want to cut production costs and make mobile games, why don't they at least make 3DS and Vita versions?

I think this is the direction alot of gaming companies are going to go in the future.

Maybe if they just did what worked back in the ps1 days..

The things that worked in the PS1 days Don't work anymore. JRPGS

arent selling nobody wants random encounters and turn based figths. You

gotta evolve as a company

I've always been curious about that, how come you know for certain they wouldn't sell.

Recent examples. JRPGs don´t sell anymore as good as they did in the PS1 era.

A great game like Xenoblade Chronicles can´t even reach the million mark

Released Limited to gamestop during April 2012 in the US to 0 marketing and with 850000 pirates during the year of 2011.

Do you really think a JRPG can move as many copies as Tomb Raider or Hitman in the West?

Who can blame them?

They've had no luck recently with their focus on good quality Western hardcore games.

Deus Ex underperformed relative its big budget, marketing and company expectations.

Dungeon Siege 3 underperformed.

Kane & Lynch 2 underperformed.

Slepping Dogs underperformed.

Hitman underperformed.

Tomb Raider underperformed.

And Thief 4 will most certainly underperform.

Some of these games broke even but combined they certainly were losing money for Square Enix.

Well Deus EX had surpassed their expectations back in 2011.

And they have said that Tomb Raider and Hitman where profitable, just not profitable enough for them. But yeah that can be considered underperformance

This. I wasn't aware 3DS and Vita games had large budgets, so why not some 3DS and Vita games as well?

I guess I saw this coming with their losses, maybe Cliffy B is right in a sense. More companies will focus on mobile/downloadable games thanks to  larger budgets.

It's just that simple.

if they wanted to save money, why don't they just fire all the staff at Square Japan. they haven't released anything decent out of that place since last gen.

Well to be fair, a game like Deus Ex: The Faill would be fit much better on the Vita. They could charge more and more people would purchase it. And to be honest I don´t really think games like this sell really well. I mean nobody I know is ready to pay 10€ for a Tablet game, but some are willing to pay 40€ for a Vita or 3DS game.

No 3DS (except DQ and maybe BD2)  or Vita support (except FFHD)  :(

Huh?  Do you have any idea how successful Square Enix has been with their 3DS games?

Look at the sales from Terry's Wonderland and DQ VII.   Those 3DS titles in particular are extremely profitable.  Shifted millions of units.
