Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square Enix Leadership Changes, Focus Shifts From AAA to Mobile

if they wanted to save money, why don't they just fire all the staff at Square Japan. they haven't released anything decent out of that place since last gen.

If they want to cut production costs and make mobile games, why don't they at least make 3DS and Vita versions?

This. I wasn't aware 3DS and Vita games had large budgets, so why not some 3DS and Vita games as well?

I guess I saw this coming with their losses, maybe Cliffy B is right in a sense. More companies will focus on mobile/downloadable games thanks to  larger budgets.

Well to be fair, a game like Deus Ex: The Faill would be fit much better on the Vita. They could charge more and more people would purchase it. And to be honest I don´t really think games like this sell really well. I mean nobody I know is ready to pay 10€ for a Tablet game, but some are willing to pay 40€ for a Vita or 3DS game.

No 3DS (except DQ and maybe BD2)  or Vita support (except FFHD)  :(

Huh?  Do you have any idea how successful Square Enix has been with their 3DS games?

Look at the sales from Terry's Wonderland and DQ VII.   Those 3DS titles in particular are extremely profitable.  Shifted millions of units.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

The fall of SE is so saddening each and every year.

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

Well I don't think they will do any better at making mobile games than making AAA titles. This decision could make them become bankrupt just like THQ.

If they can bring truly quality gaming experiences to mobile, I say more power to them. The day tablet gaming becomes viable is the day I'll be willing to invest in a good one. If their goal is simply to release more garbage like All the Bravest, though.....

They really killed themselves, looking at versus 13 and FF14.
Versus 13 was shown in 2006 and it still doesn't have a release date. 7 years development cycle?
FF14 one of the worst mmorpg of the decade.

They have a huge fanbase but they killed it.
Keep in mind they are still losing money after milking us with all the remakes. Which cost probably nothing to remake as the everything is just a resolution bump.
They are failing at their AAA titles, which release one every 2.5 years will do to you.

Keep in mind we have only like 2 final fantasy this console gen for 7 years. 3 in 8ish years. 1 FF mmorpgs and thats it.
There are a lot of psp and ds games but most is remakes which I don't believe take a lot of time to do, as the story and script is all there. And that's is what they've been doing for the whole gen.

No KH for the whole generation, No Chronos, No Xeno.

The fall in the reading comprehension in this community is worse, SE Japan discussed all over, when they have nothing to do with the subject matter.
