Source: GameStop played huge role in Microsoft’s Xbox One DRM reversal

Speaking to a GameStop employee today, who chose not to be identified by name (but who uses the screen name BenVTrigger on gamrconnect), we’ve discovered that GameStop likely played a large role in Microsoft reversing the Xbox One’s policies. “We were told that we weren’t going to get anymore Xbox One’s,” she said, “because the DRM directly impacted our capital, we were not going to push it as hard as we were the PS4, and that involved stocking less units.”

Ho ho! Sounds like I was right about Gamestop putting the squeeze on MS while they were down, and why they did.

All those subtle hints BenV threw around :P I could make a whole thread about them alone haha

All in honesty though he never actually said anything though but yes I do believe GameStop was a huge role in this. Thank you gamestop :)

Looks like gamestops got more influence than Microsoft previously thought, i guess they expected them to just accept it

No, they expected them to just #dealwithit.

I really think it was a combined effort.

Once GS had the data to show how much the market disliked their DRM solution via internet rage and of course crappy presells, they could then put the pressure on them.

Had presells been fine, GS wouldn't of done shit.

Looks like Microsoft wont be telling anyone to #dealwithit. for a long time, at least until their next console

Let's be honest, you are expecting retail to display/sell your product for maybe $5-$20 margin... and the hardware manufacturer are going to screw you out of used game sales which keeps your afloat... I am not surprised one bit that they were pushing PS4 and this was having an effect on sales.

Not the same. I have the exclusive scoop that the Gamestop employee is Ben, and that he's a girl.
