Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Launch Xbox One consoles may be extremely valuable down the road

I just found a big reason to buy Xbox One on launch day. Maybe even several units...

By the sound of things it appears that the launch Xbox One consoles will come with DRM and always on enabled but will have a day 1 patch applied when you connect to Xbox Live.

It dawned on me that these consoles may be one of a kind as the update will probably be pre-applied to second batch of consoles.

Someone at Microsoft will enable a hack or a trick for this update to be bypassed for their own enjoyement. People at Microsoft don't deal with physical media...they will not want to bypass the cloud due to fears of their own DRM eating their children. They will tell 2 freinds, and they will their their friends about it...etc. Sooner than you know it, it will be on tech blogs and XDA Forums alike...

For those that want the cloud experience for all purchases and they want to experience Xbox One the way its meant to be played, with fast game and app switching and no loading, disk swapping nonsence...it may be very wise to stock up on Xbox One unit or two and wait a few months.

Bro you're late, Microsoft canceled the DRM.

They did but Xbox One launch consoles can not be fixed in time. They have the DRM firmware and cloud features for retail games enabled by default... The fix for those consoles will come with a day 1 patch when you connect to the internet.

I'm not so sure. I mean, it's not like it's releasing tomorrow, I don't see why they wont have enough time to pre install the patch on all Xbox Ones, from launch. Or they may just make the patch mandatory.

^_^

Well it might work for the first 24h, until it notices that the servers have changed.
More likely that it had a day 1 patch anyway for initial setup and only the patch will be changed.

The cloud features will be there with the update, what are you even talking about? Just buy all our games from xbox live and you will never know xbox 180'd. If that is what you actually want...

I'm putting mine on Ebay for $10,000. If it doesn't sell then I guess I have some gaming to do. :)

It'll be worthless as better models will come out later in the coming years.

Yeah but youre bound to get disks as gifts, find awesome sales at retail...you cant avoid disks. Besides, who knows what kind of trickery you could do with this stuff... JTAG Xbox 360s are pretty valuable :)

I may be wrong but I think that without the day one patch the X1 would not even work (offline gaming).
