Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft's original idea was not meant to be intentionally malicious....

Of course it's not entirely malicious. It's not like they said, "Let's just fuck everyone over!"

But they did look at how much money Halo launches bring in. And they did think about how nice it would be if they got to keep all that loot and retailers got exactly $0. And they did think that was a future they should try to make a reality sooner rather than later. But they did not think for two seconds about how to make this in any way, shape, or form beneficial to the consumer. And they learned a valuable lesson, at least for now.

I think that’s exactly what they did. It's what they do. Look at MS history, from the very start. It's been buy and steal their way to the top. And take every penny they can while giving as little as possible. You'd be surprised how malicious the higher ups of big companies can be. While the little guy (programmer) is in love with the idea. The big boss sees dollar signs, "yes this is exactly how well fuck them".

If Microsoft was nothing but what you stated, then how would it continue to get consumer support for all these years to grow into such a size company to what it is today? I'm not saying that I agree with all of their practises (far from it), but acting this way from the very beginning would have seen it become nothing more than a garage-based company.

Not a lot of it is known to the average person. Reading up on the history between him and Jobs will give some insight. What we do know is MS dos made Microsoft, which was bought from Xerox.  Bill gate is a wonderful business man, but an innovator he isn't. Hell he didn’t even know how to interface the computer. IE mouse and keyboard till jobs showed it to him. And it also comes down to options; you’d be surprised how quickly MS windows would drop like a rock if there was any really completion outside of windows on PC.

Well of course icrosoft want more control over their market, but any company could just say "Hey let's be an asshole corporation and fuck over consumer rights to help our bottom line", but the problem with that is that they know they'll get consumer backlash, and I don't think Microsoft is stupid enough to willingly fall into that hole, because it's an incredibly difficult place to get out of.

Were there external influences? It's possible. In fact, it wouldn't suprise me if Microsoft went up to somebody like EA and said "Hey we have this great idea for optional DRM that we're going to put in the Xbox One", and those developers backed up and said that if they don't add these extra oversights (which IMO seem tacked on to the original idea, whether it was Microsoft's idea to do that, or somebody else), then they wont get their 3rd party support. Ultimately that means that while the Oversightsmight not have been Microsoft's original idea, they're the ones responsible for the consumer backlash, since they're the ones who were trying to shift the goalposts without consideration of consumer rights.

Well it looked like MS originally tried to ignore the backlash. They tried to stand their ground with their drm policy but were forced to retreat when the pre orders came in heavy in favor of the PS4. Then they tried to act like they were listening to the backlash.

You know how everybody implies that the internet is irrelevant to the real world?

They knew about what was going to be hampered and tried to say "look at the benefits" at the end of the day

I don't think they have any compunction against fucking people over, for sure. I just don't think it's their intent. They don't care one way or another. "Whatevah!  Whatevah! I do what I wawnt!"

But for all their previous lameness, they hadn't yet run into a situation where they couldn't dangle some shiny new FPS in front of their fans and get them to roll over and take it. This time "Did you see Titanfall?" had no effect. They were in some deep shit, and now that they've capitulated I'm a little sad to see how many people are so eager to just forget all about this and get back to playin' da Xbawx. Bums me out more than the people who were defending them every inch of the way, because there is literally no hope for those cheerleaders.

True, but I think a mass majority of games have seen threw their crap this gen, Titanfall didn't have an effect because it can be played on PC and everyone knows it will be on PS4 within 6 months if the numbers are right or at the end of a year if it's an even match between the two consoles. Besides the more I think I about titanfall the less excited I get. The truth is they've been losing "fans'' for quite a while now, but they loss them in masses over the last week.

All they had to do was to give consumers real incentives and value with going digital. That's all.

Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? It's thanks to moronic luddities like yourself that we have been deprived of a future of sharing demos with up to 9 of our friends. I hope you're happy, you filth.

What have I done ..

haha this is some funny shit!

they just needed everybody else onboard or have the balls to go through with it,they and others can still sell products just digitally if they want to

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

I love how you are all acting like Microsoft is some evil company that is driven by profits. Today my Xbox Live went down and I decided to pick up a Wii U. I spent an hour updating the thing and was excited to start D/Ling demos to try some games out. Half the games did not have demos, some were badged free that still required you to buy content to play (Some Pinball Game) then the demos for the pinball lasted one stinking round. Most of the demos were severely limited with the exception of Monster hunter. That you could play 30 times before it stopped working!!! MS Demos are far more generous . Don't even get me started on the Sony PS4. I sold mine shortly after the huge outage! If you guys really believe Sony loves you your all NUTS. Sony is driven just as much as M$ by profit. They told all you suckers everything you wanted to hear and played their cards brilliantly by waiting to see what M$ would do and act accordingly. M$ on the other hand has always been honest about what their intentions were rather then take the elusive approach Sony did with answers to their questions. I was really looking forward to the 10 person family list my relatives could have downloaded my games from and played from anywhere around the country. Even if only one of us could have played at any given time. This would have encouraged them to play more. Instead M$ was too honest and dropped the ball by not explaining why the DRM policy was in place. Just that it was there. Unfortunately it appears this cycle M$ is the only one of three truly innovating but for some reason they are too stupid to get the word out. Someone over there should be fired if you ask me. My pre-order is on an Xbox One and when I'm bored I'm sure I will drop another $400+ to grab a PS4 eventually so I can play some of their exclusives.

I think the biggest misconception is that ms is more greedy than sony or nintendo. No they are all greedy and they all care only about profits. The difference is sony is smart enough to know the proper way of going about it. MS on the other hand are completely out of touch with consumers.

I know about Microsoft's history of embrace and extend, so no need to elaborate. Besides, it's steering the topic off-course. What I'm saying is that on the consumer front, Microsoft gave people what they wanted, and in the business world, that's what counted. Had they been arrogant towards consumers with MS-DOS at the time, then guess what, we probably wouldn't be using Windows right now...
