Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Fez’s Phil Fish: “Microsoft Won’t let me Develop for Their Console. But Sony Will”

I wonder about Wii U. I know it has tools to nearly auto translate Android/iOS code to Wii U and I'm pretty sure it was also setup so self-publishing was ok.

He shittalked WiiU and 3DS quite a bit so I dont think hes into Ninty. PS/PS4 looks likely for now.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Still, I think the point is that it is hard for some developers to develop games for it.

I have heard of Fez, but have no idea what it is.

It is not so much that it is hard but that the policy is around getting your game right and releasing, not pushing any old crap or releasing buggy stuff and patching later. Some like this approach as it encourages better quality to start with and some hate it as testing can be expensive and time consuming especially in a small indie and the submission process is more onerous. There is nothing inherently hard to develop for, just that patches go via MS servers and those patches are expensive to deploy, discoverability in XBox also has issues

Didn't Fez flopped for a 5 years dev cycle ?

I tried it, but I was bored after 15 minutes or so, I didn't even knew why I was playing it.

Still, Phil Fish is a quite influent guy on the indie scene, so good news for Sony

Thats why they are making a sequel to that

@topic He didn´t say Microsoft wont let him he said he dislikes the anti-indie policies the patch problem being one of those policies

I don`t see any big deal here. Fez and many other indie games like Spelunky and Super Meat Boy came to the Xbox 360 and I don`t see this being any different with Xbox One. Most indie games are not that great anyways and those that are good will be on Xbox One at some point if there`s enough demand for it.

Just take a look at the amount of indie games on XBLA. Majority of them on XBLA are the good indie games. PSN has more but other than Journey no indie game that is good IMO is not also on XBLA.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

He made it clear that he was not a fan of Nintendo.

Meh, doesn't change that Fez won't be on PS platforms anytime soon, if ever.

He is one of the guys with the cash flow to self publish. The vast majority NEED a publisher, so this type of news doesn't mean much in the end.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I would defenitely get it, but not for much ($5? maybe.) I'll probably end up getting it on Steam at this rate.

Dissapointing, but after the whole patch fiasco with the 360 it makes sense.

It's just that simple.

Yeah, he's probably one of the very few developers, that I would not really like, to be saying good things about Sony, it only makes Sony look bad :P nevermind the actual message.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Requiring a publisher in the current digital environment is ridiculous and archaic. All it does is to eat away money that should go to the developer. I have no idea why anyone would defend this, yet I've already seen people try.

I expect another reversal by Microsoft. I know they're trying very hard to please publishers but a publisher is nothing without developers. They'll have to allow self-publishing eventually and on that day I expect a lot of the same people defending their current policy to tell us how great it is that they're changing.
