Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One will now sell as many units as PS4, says Pachter

Really?? Seems to me there are plenty of great titles coming to both X360 & PS3. As for lack of exclusive midway through this generation... simple... Sony already had tons of in house developers while Microsoft around that same time was in the process of building up their in house studios.

Since 2008 Microsoft has added Press Play, Twisted Pixel, Black Tusk Studios, Soho Productions, Lift London, BigPark, Microsoft Studios Victoria & Microsoft Studios Osaka. That`s at least 8 studios built from the ground up or purchased outright since 2007.

Sony on the other hand during this same timeframe has been shutting down a good chunk of studios but also had tons more considering their one generation head start on Microsoft.

Studios are great but the end of cycle games can't compare. TLoU + Beyond2Souls + GT6 versus Gears of war 4?

It will match it in America. Maybe even beat it if supply is there.

Worldwide though? Not even close.

Pretty much this! X1 stands no chance against th ps4 in Europe which has been showing itself to be a fairly bigger  market for hardware sales than NA.

Well PS4 was going to sell more anyway once those prices were revealed. Also Playstation had a horrendous start at the beginning of this gen by being $200 and a year late. Both of those advantages are gone for Xbox and the price has actually become a disadvantage which I didn't see coming. PS4 is also more powerful and PS+ is obviously a better value than Live. Also many were not fond of MS's late gen support so they had some bad relations going already. I think MS will now sell more in the US for this gen maybe but other than that I don't see how you do better without having an advantage in the 2 most important areas (games and price). Also 20 exclusives in the first year to 15 is another PS advantage.

Some great points in here, especially the weak end-of-cycle support for the 360 compared to the PS3. I'm not sure why manufacturers aren't aware of some of these basics at times.

Sony said they had 20 titles in development for PS4 from first party 12 of which were new IP.  MS said they had 15 with 8 new IP.  That's pretty straight numbers for their production.  Look at the support for their final year at the forefront for the 7th gen consoles.  PS3=Sly, NiNoKuni, GoW, LoU, Puppeteer, GT6, Beyond 2 Souls while 360=Gears and some Live stuff that people only talk about because there are no blockbusters coming (PS has plenty of great online titles like Guacamele).

That's actually a really good theory, except Microsoft investors don't really care about Xbox.

Pachter is a grade-A moron.

Back on topic: I just don't see this happening. $100 is a lot of money, plus the Xbox brand took a severe beating.

In 2006 the $200 gap was a lot of money, and Sony got nothing but bad news leading up to the PS3 launch. Jus saying

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Well things could change in 2015 or 2016. Maybe Microsoft cuts its price and makes some "killer apps" and maybe Sony makes a couple bone-headed business decisions.

But right now, with the information we have, I think it's safe to say that PS4 will outsell Xbox One. The systems share many of the same games, but the PS4 is cheaper and it has more momentum. Plus all the bad press won't evaporate just because Microsoft reversed its policies overnight. I still hold a lot of bad feelings toward Microsoft; I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Breaking even in the U.S. would be very good for the PS4 and would lead to a global dominance for the coming year.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

takes time to build up good developer talent. Last of Us and Beyond 2 Souls I agree with but forza is hands down the better sim game compared to Gran Turismo.

One of points is that most of Sony`s development studios have been around for years while the majority of Microsoft`s are just a few years old at best.

My other point is that Sony has had longer to build up good development studios longer than Microsoft. It takes time for development studios to produce games and considering most of Microsoft`s were formed within the last few years it is no surprise that they had a larger amount of exclusives late in this generation. If you look at X360 up to 2007 there were more timed exclusives and third party exclusives overall during that time and also they closed major studios like FASA Studios and Ensemble Studios during that time as well.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.
