Forums - Microsoft - EA on X1 DRM change:no change to our decision to discontinue Online Pass. It is dead

Saw this over on NeoGaf

"[There is] no change to our decision to discontinue Online Pass," EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg told Polygon. "It is dead."

"As we said a few weeks ago, none of our new EA titles will include online pass, and we are removing it from existing games as well," Reseburg said. "Nothing else on today's news, but did want to be clear that our online pass decision was based on player feedback, and there's no change."

won't stop them to put drm like sim city though

I dont believe they did anything for the benefit of the player. They got cornered when Sony sided with the gamers. The DRM failed, so they have to work their way around it. They are going to speak about it later so we'll see.

good news!

...but i imagine that behind closed doors EA is pissed. after backing out of their "unprecidented relationship" with nintendo i wonder what now happens with their "special partnership" with MS.

Sony is going to start charging for online, even for games you already paid for. I wouldn't exactly call that "siding with the gamers" I would instead call that "bullshit."

I would much rather play games with DRM for free online, instead of being forced to pay a monthly subscription to play online.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It is hilarious how these 'unprecedeneted partnerships' rapidly disintegrate before their eyes all the time!

Microsoft put pressure on them. They were losing money doing so much for gamers and ended up losing out in the end, Plus is very deserving of the $50 a year and they saw that gamers pay for it willingly. They found a way to give gamers more than Microsoft ever did and just tacked on multiplayer to add to its overall value. They dont block anyone from any other experience like Netflix and Hulu Plus. Steam taught companies how to give back to their gamers, Sony heeded this trend and now Microsoft is learning from Sony by doing the same for Xbox Live gamers.

Say thank you to Valve and Sony.
