Forums - Microsoft - The Xbox One Just Got Way Worse, And It's Our Fault

The Vision

  • Every game you bought would be tied to your account.
  • Because of that, you can creat a hop to sell and resell games digitally.
  • Publishers can get money on resold games.
  • New games could be cheaper.
  • You will get a better return on your used games.
  • Sharing games.
  • You can share your digitally purchesed games. THATS REALLY BIG DEAL.

The DRM Boogey Man Is So Last Decade

  • The real fear behind DRM on games is the idea that at some point in the future, you'll be told that you are no longer allowed to use the content you'e paid for.
  • that is not how DRM, by and large, works today.
  • Here's a video game example of effective DRM in practice: World of Warcraft, the most popular game of the past decade, it works. And no one complains.

Our Capacity

  • Today's news proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the internet has a voice.
  • Cheaper games. Easier sharing. The end of discs. The Xbox One would have been just fine despite the chorus of haters, would have been a better system for ignoring them.

I think the game sharing and discless play are the only losses. the game sharing thing just sounded a bit too good to be true, I do kinda wish MS stuck to their guns and paved their own way next gen.

Fair digital prices are all they need to do to negate the used game sales. Its really that simple. Publishers should be putting their games up, available for pre-order at $10 and that'll be it:
- Fewer retail sales, less used games in the market.
-Less reason to buy used games because competitive prices of digital games.

-The Xbox One was not going to give people a better return on their used games.
-Every game being tied to your account only brings restrictions. This is why Microsoft had to mend the situation.
-You dont own your digitally licensed game. Microsoft is allowing you to share it, You have more rights to sharing when you own the disc.

Microsofts policy on DRM put Gamestop in danger with its shareholders and scared fans. The DRM policy has had to be changed multiple times since the reveal of the XBox One up until they finally had to drop it all together. There is nothing we're missiing until gamers and publishers come to the conclusion as to what the competitive pricing on games are opposed to used games. Its as simple as that. We don't have that situation cleared at all and outside of demand exceeding copies of games digital isnt the superior form just yet. That is only the future speaking but not the active result of practice.

I'm sorry Ryan Giggs, not everybody like to be "slave" to the corporate cats in the gaming industry.

1st your vision doesn't benefit consumer anyway better than it is right now. It's just a publisher wet dream to rent you a service.

2nd WOW is not region locked, it's an MMORPG, not everybody like that. And it's not $500.

3rd it's just your (writer's)assumption. I can share my games now and later, I don't need a company to tell how I do it and with how many people I do it. Before that if I had bought the system I had to check if I was allowed to play it or not in certain areas.

I'm not the one who wrote this article. It's Kyle Wagner from Gizmodo.

I'll take DRM free console please and thank you.

It's not worse now, it's far better. So what if you could share your games with people you probably never met but are "friends" with. It's better that we can just do what we want with games as we do now. At least at the end of it, the Xbox One and it's games doesn't become a useless box which would of happened thanks to DRM.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

"Sell and resell games"?

I am pretty sure it was that you can sell someone a game, but after you purchase it that game is then tied to your account forever and you cannot resell it. It's a 1-time second hand sale. Plus, this feature is only available if publishers want to allow it, so it was never a sure thing.

His argument also looks a bit weak since he had to list "sharing" twice.

If you buy 100% digital then your games are still tied to your account.

Publishers shouldn't be getting money from me selling property I have purchased and own.

"New games could be cheaper". Yeah, there are a lot of "could"s, but still no definites. PS+ already gives games cheaper, so I don't understand why the new policies for XBone were needed.

Only thing you really lost out of this whole deal is the family sharing, however you regained your ownership rights. A far trade off if I do say so myself.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Yer lets compare WOW to a console

WOW is not time bound as you can play it on any PC.

xbox one physical games are tied to that consoles. Once the gen ends so do your games.

i can play after a hurricane knocks out my net. i fail to see a loss at all. im not so lazy i cant reach over and insert a disc. that dork @ giz wrote it to get noticed, bc its asinine. the wow example is retarded, this dumbass needs to lose his job, wow is a MMO, O means ONLINE, therefore no one would expect to play offline on a MMO.
