Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do some people think 360 will outsell PS3?

does "sold" account for all the broken ones that are replaced? I know of a few people have had up to 9 360's repaired. :) I thought everyone went by the shipped number as its real hard to track how many actually sold.

9? Come on man, that's nuts.

As for your question, the answer is no. "Sold" is a retail sales to a customer. If it's being repaired by MS, that's not a new sale.

Do you know the store has to sell the first batch of systems before they can get another order? So how is it possible for one company to ship more and one campany to sell more?

End of Dec 06 - Microsoft had 2.4 million consoles sitting on shelves (10.4 shipped, 8.0 sold).

Those 2.4 million where sold in 2007 and MS didn't stuff the retail channels this time around.

Thank you, Gebx.

Some people think the year must have started 0 to 0 or something.

:)

Its funny how channel stuffing in Dec 06 sort of bit them back on the ass for 2007.

I knew it would. Similar issue happened to Sony when they were "reporting" PSP sales. There was an 8 million unit gap between Sony's numbers and actual sold to consumer numbers. This was back when they reported manufactured units as a sale. The conflicting numbers had a few publishers puzzled why their games weren't hitting sales targets for X amount of units "sold" and they almost lost some support.

The following quarters they had to scale back production and shipments of PSP's to the point that only 10,000 PSP's were shipped to the US for a whole quarter at one point.

Really screwed with the quarterly reports. MS had the same problem with the X360 after Q3 2006.

Spinning??

The original argument was about the 360 outselling the PS3 in 2007. I show you it did, then you come up with some excuses saying it would of sold 500,000 in those 12 weeks without any facts or anything backing you up. I rebuttle you with straight numbers and you claim I'm spinning?

Yes spinning. You are giving inaccurate numbers. The ps3 wasn't out a full year in Australia/Europe. It's release date was March 23rd. You say "if this than that" which is a huge spin. If this than that theories EFFECT EVERYTHING which you are not taking into consideration.

Here is the only if this than that situation that isn't spinning.

If the ps3 was out for those extra 3 months than it MAY have outsold the 360. It may not have out sold it. The fact is we don't know, so don't state 360 outsold ps3 in '07 as fact because ps3 wasn't out for the full year(fact)

I like the PS3 and all but I think the PS3 would have sold around the same amount no matter when it was released. It wasnt like there were any shortages you could tell that because when the PS3 was released it didnt sell out in Europe which means everyone who wanted one got one.

^^ Yes everyone who wanted one got one. I agree but are you telling me it would have sold 0 units for the 12 weeks it got jipped? It would have only needed to sell 40k units each week to make the 500k mark. And I'm positive that it would have slightly cut into 360 sales.

Thats why my if than that theory is the only one that works. We can't say how many less consoles the 360 would have sold or how many ps3's would have sold.
