If we pretend that the PS3 came out Jan 1st then we have to believe that the sales would of kept dropping till the price cut. In total the PS3 wouldn't of had more then 360,000 units extra (and I'm being generous by pretending those extra weeks would of sold at a 30k average)

 

  


If you are going to go by average you better lower the sales of the 360 from Jan-April. You're telling me everyone who bought a 360 in those 3 months wouldn't have went to the other side? I'm sure MS sales would have decreased with a 2nd console as competition. Like i said you are spinning the numbers and aren't having a fair comparison. So stop now

A vast majority of PS2 owners belong to the so called "casual" category, which is known, amongst other things, for its lack of brand loyalty.

Even if it wasn't so, the PS3 was virtually designed to repel PS2 owners. There are much more logical current gen devices for those tens of millions of people to migrate to.

Dont fool yourself, according to sony and microsoft's official numbers the playstation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 in 2007 by 1.5 million.

 So you're saying europeans couldn't wait a couple weeks to purchase a PS3? They just had to spend that hard earned money on a console they didn't want??

and who the hell cares.. the 360 outsold the PS3 in 2007 period.

I agree they're shipment numbers and I agree that Sony shipped more consoles then the 360

Same reason some people think the PS3 sold more consoles in 2007 - brand loyalty defies logic.

The question is how long will it take the PS3 to surpass 360 sales. It will almost certainly not happen until sometime in 2009, if everything goes Sony's way. 2010, 2011 are more likely, and by then, the X720 will be on it's way and no one will much care.

In the end, MS will have expanded it's base this generation, and Sony's will have diminished. No matter how much Sony recovers, the PS3 will be seen as a step backward for them.

Spinning??

The original argument was about the 360 outselling the PS3 in 2007. I show you it did, then you come up with some excuses saying it would of sold 500,000 in those 12 weeks without any facts or anything backing you up. I rebuttle you with straight numbers and you claim I'm spinning?

Because it has more games and is cheaper? Only reason PS3 is even remotely close is because of Japan and MS wanting to actually make money which is why we only seen a $50 price drop in 3 years! There so many factors that go into who is wining and why. Yeah they had a head start but they didn't have 120 million previous owners of the last gen system and have never taking off the ground in Japan as well strong competition from Nintendo among many many more reason.

Bottom line is MS i making money on the 360 just like Nintendo is making money of the Wii so is up to the PS3 to get to that point. As someone else mentioned already all I really care about is the USA because all my favorite games are made by American publishers/developers and they are the ones thriving in this generation and only getting bigger. They will continue to support the 360 and in the end that is what matters.
