Forums - PC - Square Enix: PC version of Final Fantasy XV "undecided" - Footage shown was running on PC

The latest issue of Famitsu (via Final Fantasy Network) says that publisher Square Enix is still undecided on whether to release a PC version of Final Fantasy XV.

According to Square Enix's chief technology officer Yoshihisa Hashimoto, if a PC version were to be released, it would require an expensive machine to run. Hashimoto said that the company was waiting to gauge audience demand before making a decision on a PC version.

Hashimoto added that FFXV is being developed in a PC environment and that platforms that support DirectX 11 will be likely candidates for the game, hence the next-generation leap to the PS4 and Xbox One.

Square Enix is also considering using the PlayStation Vita for cross-platform functions for FFXV. Smartphones and tablets are also on the table for various FFXV-related features and apps.

Final Fantasy XV was announced at Sony's E3 press conference last week. The game was originally called Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

They have been re-releasing their old PC final fantasy 7 & 8 ports (with crippling DRM and selling it only through their own website for some reason) and the Enix side of the company has a close relationship with Nixxes Software who do PC ports like Deus Ex: HR, Tomb Raider, Hitman etc as well as the upcoming Thief 4.

The last game that SE Japan brought to PC, The Last Remnant was sadly not a great game on top of being months after the X360 version which had already bombed. It was a good port tho and added several features that weren’t in the X360 version. They have recently started putting it on sale more in Steam Sales etc so maybe the long tale on the PC port will convince them to give it another go with a higher profile release.

there is a pettion up if anyone is interested

Oh god I never should have posted this, now I'm going to be dissmembered as this likely won't be ported. Tho it is nice to see that it's something they are at leat considering, more evidence that the profile of PC gaming is raising in Japan.

yeah :(, but atleast he said they considered, which they haven't really aside from the online ones since 8.

I think the sales of the eidos games, and supposedly FF8, and FF7 are in the registry on steam, regardless of japan might do it. Though, that might make it for sure not happen because SE always expects irrational sales. haha

slightly detailed quote from IGN

But what of the decision to make the former-PlayStation 3 exclusive available on Xbox One in addition to the PlayStation 4? "Previously we proceeded with development based on the capabilities of consoles like the PS3," he revealed. "Now, though, we're developing on DirectX 11, not based on the PS4 or the Xbox One. This lets us develop full-spec without worrying about individual platforms, then port it to each console in the most appropriate way. As a result, the original Final Fantasy XV runs on a pretty high-spec PC, and how close a console gets to this original depends on its specs.

"The idea is to keep our options open; if a console comes out in the future that can recreate the original, we can handle that. It's the opposite approach from your typical 'multiplatform' project which bases itself on the specs of a single console. Currently [a PC port would] require a pretty expensive PC, but if we get a lot of people in the future who want to play it with full specs, I think we can discuss supporting that."

I'd buy it.

Well, lets be honest. Its not like the port would be costly since its already beeing developed for the PC. Its wether Square makes it available or not.

Final Fantasy 13 was built in the same way.   A perfectly usable PC build is in harddrives at Square Enix (Unless they got deleted).  I'm still waiting for it on PC.

With the architecture of new consoles being so similar to pc. They should give serious consideration to this.
