You really think they did this because they are listening to their fans? They did this because Sony had too many advantages.
-No DRM
-Lower Price
-More Power

They eliminated one of those advantages Sony had and no it can actually be a competition. Microsoft doesn't care about you, they care about sales. By now they already have pre-order data and I'm betting they were horrified at how fast the Xbox brand was being destroyed.

Sony doesnt care about you either. No corporation cares about you.

I beg to differ. They care more than Microsoft that's for sure. You see Sony understood that if you anger the customer, they won't buy our product. Microsft quickly found out this once they saw pre-order data for Xbox One and PS4. Right, BenVTrigger?

Yeah, they really care about those 5 million PS Vita owners... Oh wait... They barely mentioned it at E3 and just let it die a slow and painful death.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Would it? Because you're buying it with DRM. Microsoft is just letting you download a patch to turn it off for the time beeing. It wouldnt be anymore illegal than what you are buying day 1 with the box. Proceed at your own risk.

In fairness, I wont speak for countries other than my own.

In Australia, this would firmly fall under the theme of 'not performing as advertised' alongside 'functioning in a different manner to presented' and you would be entitled to a full refund.

I've stated this in other thread, Australia/NZ and similiar law in Europe would butcher MS if this happen. Even in the US they would be facing litigations. Once this bomb drops there's no going back. QFT

In the United States it's call Bait and Switch which is very illegal.

Sony made 1 statement about used game in Feb, it was from Shuhei.

"Yes. That's the general expectation by consumers.  They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that's my expectation... So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?"

Used game can be played on PS4! This was very specfically worded after speaking with PR. They also stated that the PS4 is 'not always online' something that MS ALSO specfically stated during their conference only to backtrack on the same day with the  'lol 24hrs is not always online' bullshit.

So yes, Sony has never made their policy clear until E3, that's why when there was such a big cheer during their conference when they finally cleared up their policy.

But we're getting off the point which is very simple:

Never assume a corporation cares for you, treat them like Thai hookers: use and forget... and when they scream 'you so big' they're talking about your fcken wallet.

He had more than one interview actually, there was the initial one and then a follow up like a week later in February.

I've read a lot of them, no further clairification and every source claim use game was 'ok' was sourcing the same interview as I mentioned above. Would love a link and happily retract the above if it is true, I've kept close track though and I don't believe anything else exist.

Read this. While Microsoft changed their policies twice now, Sony not once changed their tone.
http://www.cinemablend.com/games/It-Official-PS4-Feature-Used-Game-DRM-Like-Xbox-One-56264.html

Exeprts:

1.) The PlayStation 4 can play games offline without having to be online. This was clarified the day of the PS4's reveal back on February 20th.
2.) Sony will not have any mandatory DRM for used games. You can buy, play, trade used games on the PlayStation 4 just as usual. No additional registration fees, pay-walls or internet registration required.
3.) If you so choose, you can play games from disc, download them from the digital store orremote load them. Sony doesn't mandate any method over the other for multi-format titles.
4.) Just for extra clarification the PlayStation 4 does not and will not require a constant always-on internet connection.

Microsoft changes its tone the first time after backlash in an interview and tones down specific DRM measures:

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/It-Official-Xbox-One-Game-Rentals-Possible-Fees-Nixed-24-Hour-Check-Confirmed-56454.html

MS slowly released their grasp on used games because of consumer backlash from one interview to another. They did not want to let go but we forced the to do it and thank god for that because Gamestop would've taken it out on Xbox gamers and as a gamer family none of us want that.

In conclusion, Sony relieved gamers fears, the problem is people were freaking out because of Microsofts fuck up that they were taking it out on Sony, which was definitely the wrong thing to do when Sony said more than once that they were with the consumers and the publishers. if Sony would've taken sides with Microsoft, EA and Activision we would've all been fucked.

You're all sheep. stupid stupid sheep. Thinking you can trust them to change. They only changed for NOW because Sony pretty much forced them too. And yet some of you sheep are running back into their arms, and you will get betrayed. Slowly they will reenforce more DRM type of shit, I promise that.

Oh, and people. Sony does care about us more. That is a fact. They are a Japanese company, and their values are much different. While they care about money just like MS, they also feel an obligation to us. Money doesn't rule the Japanese culture, like it does here in the States with corperate greed. This is most likely the reason you don't see DRM forces on you to begin with. MS is just thinking about money and got stuck, so they need to take it back for now.

Exellent, thank you for the article, I've never even heard of the website, but their source is Kotaku and I've actually read that article before it got updated. Happy to state that I am wrong and Sony' had a clear picture of their policy going into E3.

But I'm still not gonna trust any corporation as far as I can throw them :P

Dont trust them, If it was Sony doing this I would've switched to Microsoft like I did earlier this gen. Whats the point of being a blind sheep? I mean yes halo is awesome but its one game and Gears isnt guaranteed. The majority of gamers buy multiplats anyway, so subtleties between these two consoles whom are both so similar are what maks or breaks the sales depending on where they are.

And I'll say what I said in the other thread, you have no idea what has been talked about behind the scenes and if it was discussed why Sony didn't go ahead. Don't for a second think "Oh but the poor gamers" popped into Sony's heads. Paywall and "DRM up to third party's" says hello.  Even when I left here you were so angry toward MS and you still are, I dunno if you would have switched honestly. But lets not make this personal, the fact of the matter is you can't trust Sony anymore than you can MS.

Goord lord man, Yoshida said DRM was never thought about...therefore it was never on the table to be brought up. They were leaving the PS4 the same way as the PS3 in that respect.

Well why on earth would they say differently? You did see E3 right? How they positioned themselves as gamers saviour and mocked MS/DRM ect?

I can well believe they didn't have any plans on it, but I can also well believe they did.  people are (in some cases rightfully) being told not to trust and put their faith in MS and I see Sony no differently, whatsoever. The only gaming company I trust to stand by their values because it actually means a thing to them, is Nintendo.

Sony never changed their tone once. I showed the guy the link, read it. Sony essentially was the savior, because if they had put DRM in their console all the people who complained would be fucked. They would have no choice between the HD twins. The two pllars of next gen gaming would've locked up DRM. Sony all eyes on the third parties and EA stepped back into the shadows.
