The Last of Us >100k next week??

Around the Network

Top 5 3DS, 7 of the top 10, 12 of the top 20. Jeez just imagine when MH4 and Pokemon do hit the console!

Also Nigekire at half a million?! Talk about legs. This series is waiting to explode, I bet the next iteration will do just that.

Nah I say most probably the other way around The Last of Us <100k.

Japanese gamers just do not embrace anything the is not japanese. No matter the quality.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Hooray, Vita has stabilised at long last! o/. I will take this relatively minor victory after months of worry that things were only going to tumble back to sub-5k.

Next week has Neptunia which may provide a very minor Otaku sized boost; the week after that has Toukiden which has a bundle with limited edition console, so I expect a slightly bigger boost from that. But then we're back into falling mode, hopefully only to 10k again.

Software wise there's not much going on. Pretty nice opening for DKCR; not-such-a-nice-opening for whatever that Square Enix game is.

It's always telling how the software is when all the Mario's and Monster Hunters + clones make up the bottom of the chart. Ah well. 3 new releases next week may brighten things up.

Other than that, not really much to say. Wii-U appears to have found its plateau as well, which is nice at least, no tumbling any further I guess unless they announce a price cut before the games come out which might cause a 1-week drop; but I don't think they will be cutting the price. 3DS still "beasting" as much as you can in Japanese charts these days and at least both the trackers seem relatively close to each other this time.

Uncharted 3 launched in Japan with ~120k units.

You could have just linked to the original post. You know, Donkey Kong Country Returns.

I could have, but screw a successful DK and give me Metroid Naughty Dog seemed more relevant to the discussion.

In that case, I better don't mention Crash Bandicoot.

Fun fact - Crash Bandicoot 3 sold more units in 3 Weeks in Japan than Gran Turismo 5 has sold lifetime in Japan.

Man, I miss Crash Bandicoot.

Yeah, I'm not saying a non Japanese game cannot open higher than 100k, I just said TLoU won't in my opinion.

And well the second sentence is still valid, since U3 only sold 200k there LTD. It's peanuts in the overall sales of this game. There are games that sold even more, but it's always a small fraction of the overall sales: GTA IV sold 550k in Japan, that's big, but not anymore when the game sold 20m on consoles.

More examples: You have LBP selling 120k there, from a game that cannot be labeled culturally.

Ratchet & Clank ToD: 80k

God of War 3: 120k from aprox. 5m, compared to 180k sold DMCs, published by Capcom (GoW also way more critically acclaimed)

Resident Evil 6 sold here 650k first week, a game that was slammed for being very "westernised", cattering to the CoD gamer, even Capcom themselves said that, so Japanese gamers should ignore it. But they didn't, cause it's a japanese game. It also got mixed reviews. TLoU reviews are stellar. First week sales will be comparable, aprox 1,3m. And we'll be seing less than 1/6th of the sales.

Sigh...as do I. Same with Spyro, though that was Insomniac.

Things were so simple back then!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Dat 3DS SW, and Taiko is doing really well. Incredible legs all around.

WiiU, down on MC, and up in Famitsu, at least ~5k doesn't seem that bad.

Oh and PSV up, well, 10~11k could be the base, but that's not that good.

PSV and Wii U are in need of price cuts.
