Forums - Gaming Discussion - Looks like Sony built PS4 to compete the Xbox 360, only with better graphics/specs

Well.. even though I don't completely agree with all of that, one thing is true: Sony is the company which takes less risks. Nintendo, in the other hand, believe they need to do something different every time.

If the past week is anything to go by it looks like that trail MS is blazing leads right out of the console business.

I disagree... When Apple, Android devices and Microsoft ecosystems are running the digital gaming landscape 5 years from now and Sony is yelling "hey guys, we do digital too if you'd like"...we will see who made the right bet.

Have you ever heard of the Vita? It does most of what MS talks about.

Vita isn't a home livingroom console but a handheld. It also completely misses the one feature it needs to offer in 2013 for mass market appeal on a handheld device... ability to make phone calls.

"They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different outcome."

considering that the PS1 sold 100M+ united. the PS2 155M+ and the Ps3 is on its way to 100M units i would say that what they have been doing seems right. so even if the ps4 isnt doing the same thing and not bringing anything new (which isnt the case) it seems like a good strategy.

Ladies and gentlemen... Xbox fanboyism at it's finest. I guess Sony selling almost 340 million units across 3 consoles is "lagging" in your book. I mean, it's not like Playstation has housed some of the most memorable and fantastic titles by some of the greatest devs in the industry. The Playstation is, and always has been, about gaming. Do you know why people aren't bothered by a subscription fee for PSN MP? Because 1) $50 a year for PS+ (still cheaper than XBL, I might add) is far better than all the BS M$ is trying to shove down peoples throats. 2) Look at how much has vamped up the new PSN? We're talking media outlets, much more social gaming, Gakai; the list goes on. What risks have M$ taken in their history? Their brand is only alive because of one franchise (which they've been milking the hell out of for 11+ years now), and the biggest risk they took with the 360 was a less than functional camera, with only a handful of games that actually utilize it, that led them to just about completely abandon the core market that made their brand what it was to begin with.

What I read when I read this, I see this: "B-b-b-but y do PS4 has moor pweordaz? Teh Xbawks One is numbuh one! Waaaahhh..."

Sorry if I come being a dick to anyone seeing this comment, but all this damage control that XBone fans are having to do, despite the fact that it's NOT EVEN OUT YET, is really annoying. Just me.

Everyone rational reading your post here can immediatly tell which one of us is a fanboy that posts incoherent nonsence...

He was simply stating facts, YOU sound like the fanboy by posting crap that is either untrue or completely one sided and omitting several points that make sonys system and approach more innovative than microsofts can hope to be.  I don't understand how any true gamer can support a company who treats their fanbase like criminals and is more focused on controlling how and when you can use your software, rather than doing everything they can to improve their customer relationships.

Except, Sony has a bunch of new social features that as far as I'm aware Microsoft isn't even considering. Hell, being able to watch my friend play a live game from different location is very impressive to me. I mean, I can imagine myself watching BasilZero get destroyed by some RPG boss right now, and then taking over his game (Since you are allowed to take over someone's game, with permission I'm guessing) and beat that boss for him. Or give him pointers, etc. That to me, is the biggest "game" changer I've seen coming out of these 3 game consoles.

Accept Sony does do digital... Are you serious right now?  Sony gives their consumers options, Microsoft is taking them away.  The only way microsofts approach will be successful and permeate the entire industry is if we allow it to, by supporting this bullshit.  I would absolutely love for nothing more than for Microsoft to backpedal a bit and at least drop this drm bullshit so that I can feel good about owning every system, but as it stands, I simply refuse to support this movement.  Sony and ninty all the way.

You just don't understand what a sound digital ecosystem is if you think that you can be half digital and half not. Xbox 360 and PS3 did "digital"...its the current staus quo.

You people are just not seeing the benefits of going digital and are jsut focusing on DRM and olways on as huge drawbacks. I refuse to believe that the people who use the internet can't see the benefits of a digital gaming library.

For example, how is Sony going to allow you to digitally share disk based games with friends and both play them in seperate households? You have to currier the disk back and forth...That sucks.

yet, i have made a couple skype calls on it.

Sony will and have done what MS is doing, they want to be number one while they do it.

We are again seeing something new on home consoles from Microsoft...cloud computing, digital gaming library, digital game sharing, HDMI passthrough and possibly many more features to come...which everyone on the internetz is claiming will fail. All while the greatest strengths for the competition are all based on the current gaming standards. Hmm...

They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different outcome.

@Bolded

Cloud computing: Ignoring the fact that you are believing in MS's bullshit about "The Power of The Cloud™" (it has already been proven to be quite impossible for something like that to actually be feasible AND make a significant difference (yeah, no 4x the processing power...)), here it is the evidence that, of course, Sony can also do it (but won't brag about it every 5 minutes): http://www.shacknews.com/article/79760/sony-of-course-ps4-can-do-cloud-computing

Digital gaming library: Really? You mean that library of X (insert number here) amount of games that anyone that has used the PS3 can have? Really?

Digital gaming sharing: Again, where have you been this last generation? You claim that Sony is the one copying MS, which is certainly true about a lot of things (like EVERY company out there. Yes, even Nintendo), but yet you provide evidence that contradicts in you in every way possible? You do know that you can digitally share your games in the PS3, right? RIGHT? (granted it's limited to only 2 accounts due to the fact that third partys did not like one bit about how everyone was exploiting this system when it was 5 accounts the limit (which means that there is a very plausable possibility that MS will eventually backpedall on their -awesome- 10 accounts sharing system)

So yeah, don't go pointing fingers and pretend that everything's ok
