I'd say they are pretty comparable.
Sony was more arrogant but Microsoft has been blundering more (although I would take arrogant PR any day over blundering PR).
The difference is unlike Sony in 2006, MS is in third place world wide. The PS2 was the best selling home console of ALL time. The PS1 and PS2 dominated the industry for over a decade. Sony had reason to have such massive egos. Microsoft? Absolute mystery. I don't know if they're just really dumb, or just....IDK lol.
At least Sony didn't try to force us to connect every 24 hours and then tell to us to buy the old model if we refused. Or put restrictions on what we can do with OUR game purchases or anything else.
I feel Sony back then is no where near comparable to what Microsoft is with Xbox One today

PS3 just hade the higher price tag and it hade free online. Xbox One is in way worse shape than PS3 was.

That's a valid argument but I personally believe the the 24 hours authenticity checks, always online, and not owning your own games overshadows Sony's disastrous PS3 launch.
The internet backlash is far more explosive than I ever remember it being for PS3.

Almost as bad i'd say. They did win the generation by a huge margin compared to MS. Arrogance is arrogance though.
