Forums - Sony Discussion - The PS3's golden year: going out with a BANG!

With the release of the PS4 imminent, I look back at my time spend with the PS3, there were plenty of fond memories (Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Valkyria Chronicles and MGS5!) and there was bad memories of the rough early days when it really was questionable if Sony would sink or swim.

Overall, I feel that the PS3 was a nice product, in some ways ahead of its times but also woefully berhind in others, with Sony playing desperate catchup to achieve parity with its prime competitor the Xbox.

In the end though they did it, they swam to shore, took and deep breath and shouted to the heaven. Sony delivered on the games.

This will be the last year were Sony focus its worldwide studio on the PS3, but with strong support from Japan and the indie scene, this also looks to be one of if not the best year of releases for the PS3. So good in fact, that I'm finding it hard to convince myself this is a console on the decline and about to be replace by a much lauded successor.

I mean just have a look at the release schedule for retail PS3 exclusive!

Ni No Kuni – Wrath of the White Witch Jan-13
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Feb-13
Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk Mar-13
God of War: Ascension Mar-13
Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory  Mar-13
MLB 13: The Show Mar-13
The Last Of Us Jun-13
Metal Gear Solid The Legacy Jul-13
Time and & Eternity Jul-13
Dragon’s Crown Aug-13
One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 Aug-13
Tales of Xillia Aug-13
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Sep-13
Puppeteer  Sep-13
Beyond Two Souls Oct-13
The Guided Fate Paradox Q3 13
Disgaea D2 A Brighter Darkness Q4 13
Gran Turismo 6 Q4 13
The Witch And The Hundred Knights TBA 13
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD TBA 13

Now thats a fine line-up, and it doesn't even include the plethora of indies and downloadable games we've been getting, I feel spoiled!

And honestly, this list appeal to me (look at'em JRPG!) more than any list presented for the next gen consoles. So PS3 owners, do look forward to next gen... but if you don't want to upgrade just yet, don't fret, the PS3 is in its golden year, this IS the year of the PS3... and we have some fine games to enjoy.

What a way to end a console cycle.

i was thinking this! already this year is better then 2012 for me! God of War:A, Bioshock Infinite & The last of Us!

The only games that interest me in that list are Tales of Xillia and Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, I wonder which of them is better.

Oh, I forgot to mention Gran Turismo 6

games that should be on another list:

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (Vita)
Metal Gear Solid The Legacy (Collection of old games)
Dragon’s Crown (Vita)
One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 (Vita)
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (remake)
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD (Vita)

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

What's Vita? Isn't that just an accessory/second screen for the PS3/4 or something?

The Last Of Us was fucking amazing! If you are reading this and haven't played The Last Of Us then you better get your shit straight and buy the game.

I've loved this year, mostly because it focuses on genres that don't often get a lot of exposure. I'm going out to buy Atelier Ayesha tomorrow; Ni No Kuni & Tales of Xillia are on my "must buy" list and I'll probably check out God & Fate Revolution Paradox as well.

Then, reviving Sly Cooper to hold up the action platformer end was just the icing on the cake.

There's also Invizimals coming to PS3 in October. Not an IP I'm particularly interested in, but it is another action platformer and I do love those.

PS3 domination. Its just not fair.
