Forums - Microsoft - Top reason why some Sony fans should quit Playstation and only buy Xbone

Those of you who know my views know I am a passionate supporter of the right to be able to trade / trade in disc based games without publisher or platform maker interferance. So I am vehemently anti Microsoft's current DRM direction. I vowed that if Sony implemented a MS-like DRM policy I would do everything in my power to convince my sons to buy a Wii U, or buy no console at all, and that at a minimum I would not contribute any money to buying a PS4. To which they replied: suck it Dad, we'll buy a PS4 with our own money...unprincipled little s....

However, some Sony fans should be hailing Microsoft's bold, and potentially suicidal without their help, move in this direction, and they should support Microsoft by exclusively buying Xbone for the next generation.

Which Sony fans?

The Sony fans who say buying used games is as bad as piracy. The Sony fans who have drunk the kool aid from certain publishers who say development studios are going out of business because of evil used game trading.

You guys should be supporting Xbone with your money. You should be standing on your principles and saying NO! to Sony and Nintendo. I will not support a console that continues to put software developers' jobs at risk, and undermines the viability of the video game industry. You should be saying I will support Microsoft's heroic efforts to save us all from a bleak future where there are no more video games, aside from the crap casual rubbish on phones and tablets.

Console loyalty is stupid and irrelevant when there's a matter of principle involved. If you believe the used game market is evil and a threat to studios that make great games, then make a stand and pre-order your Xbone today!

If such people don't switch to Xbone then they are unprincipled hypocrits. Microsoft should be their righteous gaming hero-saviour.

And that goes for Nintendo fans too.

I think a free and open used game market is both good and right. But if you think it's evil and wrong, then you should get a Xbone.

I think this obsessional Microsoft hate is really poisoning this website :(.

Perhaps it would be best that this thread and other similar ones are just closed.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Sony fans quit Sony and bought a 360 which is why Microsoft sold as much as they did this gen. No one make Sony fans see the light, they react to games in large quantities and proper price points, not just a small section of exclusives and a large group of multiplats. Microsoft most likely lost those early Sony adopters who went 360 last gen on principle this gen while they backtrack to Sony.

WHAT? that doesnt make any sense, i think used games are as bad as piracy, sure, they wont kill the industry but im sure some devs would use that extra money they could get if everyone bought their game new.

Anyways, theres no point in buying and xbox one for that, you can always buy the game new (AND SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS) for ps4, wii u or pc

Nintendo gamers don't believe used games are ruining the industry and neither does Nintendo.

The best way for console makers to deal with the used games market is to ensure their games are so good that people don't want to trade them in, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Polygon. But supporting used games is also important, he added.

"We have been very clear, we understand that used games are a way for some consumers to monetize their games," Fils-Aime said. "They will buy a game, play it, bring it back to their retailer to get credit for their next purchase. Certainly, that impacts games that are annualized and candidly also impacts games that are maybe undifferentiated much more than [it] impacts Nintendo content. Why is that? Because the replayability of our content is super strong. The consumer wants to keep playing Mario Kart. The consumer want to keep playing New Super Mario Bros. They want to keep playing Pikmin. So we see that the trade-in frequency on Nintendo content is much less than the industry average – much, much less. So for us, we have been able to step back and say that we are not taking any technological means to impact trade-in and we are confident that if we build great content, then the consumer will not want to trade in our games."

I dislike the xbone as much as the next guy but these threads are getting rediculous

Okay, okay, they've learned their mistake. You don't need to torture them by forcing them to buy an Xbone.

You completely misunderstand this thread. I'm telling people they should act on principle. If their principles are that used game trading is bad then they should be supporting Microsoft and Xbone. I'm totally serious. Sony fans who think the used game market is bad should be buying Xbone.

In the interests of full disclosure I've stated my principles.

People should make decisions based on principle, the stronger the support of that principle the more firm and obvious the decision should be. I am strongly in favour of an open used games market, even though I mostly buy games new. Thus on principle I oppose what MS is doing. I don't oppose MS because they are MS, or because they are not Sony or because they competing with Sony. People who are strongly in favour of shutting down used game trading should be buying the console that most closely aligns with their principles. I happen to think their principles are based on false premises, but if they are their principles then they should be guided by them and meaningfully back up companies that are aligned with their principles.

Sony and Nintendo fans should seriously consider their views on this matter, and if they find their views in alignment with Microsoft then they should be buying Xbone.

How is my advocating that some Sony and Nintendo fans should by Xbone poisonous anti MS hate? I really do mean it. They should be buying Xbone. If they are only buying PS4 because of Killzone, or Knack,. or exclusive Batman costumes then they are woefully misguided.

You get that I am basically criticisng a segment of the Sony and Nintendo fan base right?

i'm trying to remember the discussion from back then but i don't really remember anyone saying they think used games are a bad as piracy. i just remember some pro-piracy guys trying to link used games and piracy to justify their piracy habits as "not any worse".
