Forums - Gaming Discussion - Confirmed, if you are banned from xbl you lose all your games

i think Microsoft fans should be happy about all this bad news lately

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Same thing happens to any digital content if you get banned from Steam/Origin/PSN/Battle.Net. Im surprised how uninformed people are about "content licensing."

The difference is... that's digital content.

However, since a game on XB1 is nothing but an install disc, installing a game tied to only one XBL account, once it is banned, all your physical copies are also useless... or so it seems right now.

Steam has physical discs you can purchase, and once they are put in the PC they are required to be linked to your Steam account.  If you are banned on Steam, you lose access to that game, even though you still have the disc and all the game data is stored on that disc.  So no, it's not different.

If you dont connect online, and have your disk; you can still play your game with steam (well without steam, since you are not online).

I'm sorry but I watched a lot of great games go to Sh-t because of the used game and piracy market. I think this has to happen. Most really don't think to far beyond, I'm poor and I want it now. Instead of planning, saving and buying. Rather they sell everything off in their collection like a crack house, rather then go work.

This may be none of you but this is how I look at some gamers. They don't ever contribute anything to the market, yet act like us that buy new should flip the bill. You are keeping game prices high. Why should they lower the price if Game stop will always beat them buy $5 dollars. Whats even better is people are so happy over a $5 savings.

Just my take. I feel with these policies, my games will drop faster in price. The company can afford to give me more for my money without worrying about the cheap skate out their. So really I hope this works great and Sony has to conform. Watch many publishers give exclusive games to MS. It's going to happen.

There is a lot of wrong with this post, and I bolded it all out. Responding to all would take me two hours, at least, but I'll just respond to used games and "benefits for you".

For one, not everybody can afford a bunch of new games every month. People post-2007 have gotten quite a bit poorer, in the US and everywhere else. The used game market has always been around to fill in the need of poorer people and the needs of collectors. It won't go away as long as there is the need for it - and even so, Microsoft only limits the used market, they're not eliminating it. Here's a good video on the topic:

For the other, don't expect any good for the gamer out of those measures Microsoft introduces. They're doing all that they are doing to squeeze every last dime out of the consumer. Starting with their overly expensive console ($500 is a lot - but 500 Euros is MUCH more. Plus, the salaries in most of the Eurozone frequently lower than in the US), and ending in pimping the used game market. I know I probably won't convince you, but I can't miss it anyway.

I don't think a publisher is bold enough to do that. They would be taking a huge chance on putting their game exclusively on Xbox. What if no one actually buys an Xbox, even though it's exclusive? They're going to lose sales.

And seemingly some other gamers here wanna get screwed over and encourage others getting screwed over.

But seemingly we don't have anything to talk about.

Do you have a link to prove that?  As I've been searching around the web, I've found people explaining the exact opposite; if the game requires Steam you MUST authenticate your disc through Steam; after that you have to set up "offline mode" if you want to play it offline.  And having searched for info on Steam's "offline mode" I've found people have had varying experiences as to how long they have been able to stay offline.  Some have been able to go for months, but others have been forced back online for authentification within just a couple weeks.

Example thread I found: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/48178/do-i-have-to-use-steam-for-games-i-bought-on-disc

Why not? Just make the others wait a month. They will still buy the game or go out and buy X1. Thats all EA would have to do. Just Release. 1-2 months earlier on the X1

Ok, but he said EXCLUSIVE, meaning not coming to PS4. They will lose sales not putting their games on PS4.
