Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One may not be able to be sold used

Gotta wait for some Russian nut to come up with some sort of Jtag/RGH to fix this mess of a console.

It may not be impossible, it's also not illogical, given Microsoft's policy on used games lately.

More importantly though, has there ever been any other device that has been able to do something like this?

MS not allowing you to sell used games deters people from buying used games.

MS blocking hardware from being resold would only hurt software sales. So its illogical to compare selling used games to reselling hardware.

Has there ever been to do something like what?

Any device that sells digital software deters people selling their used media.

I don't know of any hardware that can't be sold used.

It would more importantly deter people from buying new games. Gamers on average don't want to buy games for $60 unless they are really good.

If with the new gen cost of production rises, the new game sales will plummet because people will know that their investment will not be recouped. Also, not everybody is willing to buy new IPs.

What is wrong with them?! Everyone in both the management and support don't even know the answers to questions. It making them all look like fools.

Wow, much ado about nothing... crazy what qualifies as "news" these days.

Who knows, maybe MS will only lease the console to you. You didn't think for a second that a measly $499 will buy you the infinite power of the cloud, did you? The concept of ownership is so last gen, dude.

It's Xbox Support. That's not exactly a question they can answer. At least not right now.

lol...

just a hint, you can log in your account on any console. what does that mean? correct.

not commenting on the OP because i have nothing to add...

@crissindahouse
but you have to do 24h check ups on your console and have to do hourly check ups in a friend console, so MS knows if you are on your console or not...

the hourly check is if you take your game to your friend and play with his account on his console if i remember correct.

i think a game will be tied to the console and the account. as long as you play the game on the console you bought it for or use the account the game was bought for, the 24 hours check should be the standard procedure.

i might be wrong...

if this was like you say, lets say you have a brother, if he logins in your console with his account does the xb one do hourly check ups? (a game from other "user 1" is being played by "user2" in a authorized console, if this was the case, you can lend games to all your friends because you just need to sign in one time for the activation/installation and he can play it in his console with his account and does not need you of your login in his xbox one... don't know if i am making myself understandable... so my guess is MS knows what is your console and lets every account play your games in that console, other consoles must be your account in use and does hourly check ups... if i am wrong, people is being very vocal and a little crazy over nothing... right???

but even if MS knows what is your console, i think they will give you option to detach the HW from your account... there is nothing here IMO...

Not necessarily. A lot of people buy new copies after price cuts. We can point to a lot of games that sold more units after price cuts.

Not a big deal because there is no one to use it in the first place

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

According to 2K CEO the first 4 weeks are essential for any company to recoup the money invested. You and I both know game prices hardly go down in that period of time.
