Forums - Gaming Discussion - 7th to 8th gen is the smallest jump in graphics I have seen. Yep I will be the bad guy and say it.

It's the smallest visual leap I've experienced in my lifetime, having started gaming in the 16-bit era.

The leap from SNES/Megadrive to N64/PS1/Saturn was enormous; every leap since then has gotten progressively smaller.

I think the graphical leap will increase later in the generation but it will never be as big as the leap from SNES to N64 or PS1 to PS2

I don't think there is any huge leaps in graphics, but it was about getting a head start on the next gen for the companies themselves. I think there is still room for improvement on this gen of graphics. I only saw a couple of games that looked like they were PC quality. I think the majority of the excitement for me is new improved hardware and gaming potential.

The thing is I only hope for great AI this generation. The jump in graphics hasent been that great. This gen will see the least squeezed out of the machines between the first wave of games to end of life games as well.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

You do know that if i blow up the ps1 pics you will see much more faults with graphics than if I blew up the ps360 pics.

Which would have no impact on my viewpoint.

Well I would have thought you of all users would have had something of more substance to say on the matter.

When you offer up something of real substance, I'll happily discuss it with you.

Besides, your pics aren't the main reason I disagree with you (though, they don't exactly aid your cause, either).

The pics were not really there as evidence but more as reference (as in go back at look at the leap in graphics from these past gen and look at this one now), not as analyze the pics in my thread and come to a conclusion. That is why I mostly ignored the responses with regards to the pics.

Well, for me, I see the differences, but perhaps that's because what I'm seeing from the PS4 and X-One is closer to what I've been experiencing on PC the last 9 months, while the PS3 and 360 are a ways behind that.

I wouldn't say it's one of the bigger leaps (that happened from 16-bit to the 32-bit, and 8-bit to 16-bit eras), but it isn't as minimal as being portrayed, either.

Fair enough.

Tell me this isn't a huge generational leap:

not really...

Yay!!!

The giant graphical leap from Mario Kart Wii to Mario Kart 8 is pretty amazing if you ask me.

well it is a smaller quantitative leap, those are some terrible comparisons. Hell MGS V is currently the PS360 assets running on PC, Kojima has said that the next gen versions will look a lot better than that trailer and run at 60fps. The fact that so many of the current batch of next gen games are cross gen and targeting 60fps and still show a decent leap over the best of current gen is pretty impressive.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Its true the jump from 7th gen ps360 to 8th gen WiiU is a very small leap.

Whats a big leap is Ps360 to Ps4/xbone :P
