Final Fantasy XV will spawn multiple direct sequels according to the game's director.

In an interview with Famitsu (via Siliconera), Tetsuya Nomura explained that the plan was to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XIII by creating direct sequels for the game set in the same world.

"In the trailer, there was a line that read 'A World of the Versus Epic,' which suggests that it will be part of an epic," he acknowledged. "While Final Fantasy XV will have one climax, as a story, we plan to continue it further."

While Final Fantasy XV will have one climax, as a story, we plan to continue it further.

Upon being challenged whether or not fans would have to wait a further eight years before seeing any of these sequels, Nomura was quick to assert this wouldn't be the case. In fact, his response suggests that future games could even be released episodically to keep waiting times down.

"As for as how it will be released, we’ll announce that later on; however, having you wait a long while for a next title isn’t something we would desire…" he replied.

It was announced on Monday night that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was being rebranded as Final Fantasy XV and would be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at some stage in the future.

Hopefully it is no more than DLC.

I see what you did there putting this in the MS Discussion.

...anyways how about actually releasing the first FFXV before talking about sequels Square.

I voted for No more. The only experience with a Final Fantasy sequel I had was with FFX-2 and it destroyed the story for me. The one time the game is "different in that one certain way" they change it with X-2.

I hated it for that reason only, the rest was at least acceptable and I liked the game-play. Tidus look-a-like was a dick actually.

And people still think SE left stuff out in XIII and made XIII-2 because of the 360...

Hey, if an MS fan finds it first can't he call it or is even that privilege stripped? At this rate, I'll be an online leper!

I bought FF13-2 for 19,99 on PSN today to celebrate.
Played FF13 on Xbox360 and it was GORGEOUS, I liked the game, althought a lot of people did not.
I saw the FF13-2 sale and checked Metacritic, everyone said it was better than 13, then, I bought.
If the engine and the story is cool, sequel and spin-offs all around =D

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

They really just need to shut up about this " were planning an epic trilogy"" etc etc bullshit. They can never devilver on time and of quality for one game let alone a series of games, wish they just said, "we are just focusing on the one for now".

Would be nice to actually FINALLY release this game after 7 years of waiting before informing us about a bunch of sequels...

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
