Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Calm down, MS policies are not that bad.

Riddle me this Batman, err DJEVOLVE:

What happens to the content you purchase now for the XBOX ONE, once Microsoft is done with the XBOX ONE?  Do you know if the content will be playable on the next Microsoft console, or if they will patch the ONE to not need to check in with home base once every 24 hours?  Do you have an answer?

If you have an answer people can trust to be true, please post it here:

If you can't answer, maybe you can begin to see why MS policies aren't that bad.  And if you are a Microsoft partisan, I bet dollars to donuts you would be IRATE about Sony now if the positions were reversed.

I don't know. Renting a game for 60 bucks sounds pretty bad to me.

Developers going bankrupt because of used games!! lol, they go bankrupt because their games didn't sell in the first place many more indies developers will go bely up because people will not take the risk of buying their games they will buy games they are sure they will enjoy

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Microsoft is trying to move from ownership of games to licensing of software.

That might work somewhat in the business world or in applications where there are constant upgrades.
But for gaming, it means that when the servers are shut down, you have NOTHING to show for your hundreds/thousands of dollars of investment.

And before you say that Microsoft would not let that happen, an exec said during its reveal that backward compatability was backwards.

That policy -- taking away ownership -- is not acceptable to me.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Hey "X hours of gameplay" DOES have a pricetag on it.  And the industry MUST make money off of every hour of game play ALL people have with their content, or they can't keep churning out games with shelf life to them, that get stale.

Actually the only thing people buy now IS a license.  The kicker is rather than owning a license and being able to change ownership of it, and controlling that, the companies want you to RENT the license and have it expire sometime, requiring you to keep paying.  The industry would LOVE to have people to keep paying to play the same content, and renting it indefinitely.  It means more money, so they can maintain support.  Look for them to got he Netflix route also, and have people access libraries.  Once you are there, after this, they can then hook you and proceed to raise the rent, and you get stuck.

Mike, the retro gaming model of owning and enjoying the past is meant to go away.

I live in a dormitory with limited internet access. Google fiber is not gonna save me.

Of course M$ consumer policies are bad, come on, just read any Phil Spencer or Don Mattrick interview and you will see how they love their cutomers :

"Backward compatibility is backwards"
"No internet connection, no next gen"
"Core Gamers buy everything anyway"
etc

You don't talk to fans like that, or do you guys like people pooping on you in the media ?

"the retro gaming model of owning and enjoying the past is meant to go away." I do not think this model is going anyway, in worst case scenario, free downloading ROM Files will take over as that we are seeing on emulation.

Some MS supporters are forgetting that with the exception of Kinect features and content deals, everything that you'll be able to do on xbone will be possible with PS4, multimedia features, social connectivity etc.

You can even go all digital on PS4 and seamlessly change between games with no need to swap discs, or you can go oldschool and buy retail discs as you please. Bad or not policies is not the issue for me, I prefer a system that gives me options instead of one that puts up restrictions

The validity of how ethical their business practices are is a personal opinion and I won't really comment on that.

I will say though that the idea this won't effect MS actual hardware sales is 100% incorrect. It is. BIG TIME.
