Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can Wii U appeal to more "core" gamers?

So do you think Wii U can appeal more to "core" gamers? From 3rd parties we will have: AC IV, CoD: Ghosts, Splinter Cell, Watch_Dogs. 1st/2nd parties: X, Bayo 2, Zelda, Mario Kart.

Zombie U, for example, sold 450k (3,5mil Wii U's). Red Steel sold 650k (100mil Wii's) . So it's safe to say that Wii U has a more mature audience?

Red Steel 2006 Shooter Ubisoft 0.54 0.02 0.04 0.05 0.65

ZombiU 2012 Action Ubisoft 0.21 0.15 0.04 0.04 0.45

What do you think?

Those Red Steel numbers are wrong mate, im pretty sure its done around 1.2 million lifetime. I for one think Wii U can cater for a more mature audience, Watch dogs,AC 4, Batman, Splinter Cell and thankfully the recently confirmed COD ghosts are all a step in the right direction. Hopefully they sell decent enough.

If by core you mean those who are into the new style of Final Fantasy XV, or those who are into Killzone 4, no, and they don't need to better off without that market.

If by core you mean those who are interested in X and were back in the day interested in Final Fantasy VII in the same generation as Xenogears, then yes they may get that market and should imho, they are a healthy consumerbase.

Depend on your definition of core because most so call "core games" tend to not sell well on other platforms as well. Maybe it the games then losing it appeal. In my point of view.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Red Steel has missing European sales as already mentioned.

Zombie U was bundled in Europe at launch (and now in the US).

Not the best games you chose to make a comparison.

They should advertise that they have free online, even though most true gamers have transcended past silly ideas like that and paying for online just makes you hardcorerier.

OT: I think they can, X and Bayonetta 2 are very excellent starts. I think the big question is going to be how much 3rd parties embrace DRM this gen.

Unfortunately no. Most of the "core" you're referring to thinks that Nintendo consoles are "kiddy".
