Here is what I see happening. You can bet just about everyone in the gaming industry wants to get to some form of DRM, because they know the costs of game making keeps getting higher and they need more avenues of profit to stay ahead.
You can bet both console makers (excluding maybe nintendo because they usually seem more traditional and stick to older formats/policies. Not a bad thing in many cases), and most if not all of the game developers/publishers want to implement a form of DRM. Why would they not if it is fact that it will make them more profitable? Its common sense guys. Of course they care about their customers, but in business the real truth is its about profits. If your going to be less profitable than competitors it usually means your behind business wise.
The problem right now is everyone is fearing the backlash, both MS, Sony, and many of the game publishers. No one really wants to be the first one that says, "yep, we need to implement full DRM on customers". They know the first people to do that will be dragged to the stake and publicly smeared and burned. Its happening to MS and everyone in the gaming business is watching. Surely no game industry company wants to be in their shoes right now, but just about all of them in their financial meetings and such know that DRM needs to happen to keep them ahead in the business world.
Its just common sense to look at what is going on in the gaming industry and know that they really want DRM, but are too afraid to spill the beans or tell the full truth.
