Forums - Gaming Discussion - Edge: DRM-free PS4 is a PR play – expect similar policies across both consoles, say sources

This argument is over, we have Sony on camera and on podcast verbally defining their anti DRM position.

Here is a great podcast of GiantBomb interviewing Sony. This is a must listen.

An announcement officially made at E3 will remain so and it's Sony responsibility to abide by it. Developers aren't consumers. But they are two sides of the same coin. I have begun to lose my faith in Edge's credibility after they are trying to expose Sony as a pretend pro-consumer.

Yes, I agree with you. This thread needs to be locked.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

ughh. no, they wont have DRM, thats the end of it

I'd be surprised if this is true.

In any event, even if Sony at one point had stricter DRM policies, it's since renounced them -- in front of millions of people. That being said, if Sony does cave to publishers requesting this DRM nonsense, I'll pass on PS4 just like I'm doing with Xbone.

Man, it's really depressing that we have to fight tooth and nail for basic consumer rights and fair business practices.

The PS4 has no built in infrastructure to support DRM. Games are not locked to a personal account,Online authentification is not required, there is no restriction on who you can lend games to based on system ownership or PSN accounts, and there are zero requirements for retailers to buy used/resell games.

But similar to the PS3/360, EA can make it mandatory for you to login to via your origin account etc, they can also continue to utilise online passes or take it further if they wish. One thing is for sure, If publishers try to implement DRM features on a PS4 game, they will be making themselves a target, just as microsoft has for implementing restrictive measures like online authentification.

Sony has never said anything about Used game policies or DRM, they always said its not in PS4 and upto third party publishers..So, these rumor's are posted by the Xbone users to damage PS4 and its started to come only after PS4 event before that we never seen a single leak which clearly says that Sony has this DRM just like Xbone.

I guess we know who paid edge then...

This article is BS! Does ps4 need to connect to online to work NO! Does ps4 need a camera plugged in all the time to work NO! Does ps4 have restrictions on used games no only publishers control that. Xbox one has more restrictions if anything they have a lot of fine print on what exactly it is you can do with your game. Sony has officially announced that the right is to the publisher to put up restrictions on used games period. stop putting up these BS articles that are pointless. The more restrictions are on the xbox one policies forcing people into something they do not want.
