Forums - Gaming Discussion - Edge: DRM-free PS4 is a PR play – expect similar policies across both consoles, say sources

It's possible. Every MS DRM rumor was considered concrete...Hell, every negative rumor was. I'm not saying it's real, Sony did say No DRM at E3 but if the publishers push to hard, Sony will have to cave. 80% of software sales were 3rd party last/this gen. If anyone can force it, they can.

We were also told that final publishing agreements will not be drawn up for at least another month, so the terms of engagement could yet change once more before each console launches at the end of the year.

Every rumor was from solid sourves and kept poping up. We havent had anything similar with sony except desperate speculation, misinterpretation, and outvof context quotes. As for publishers... you mean the same ones who just recently publicly stated they have no problem with used market?

lolol
ITT: People desperately hoping this is true.

Problem is, the xb1 REQUIRES an internet check-in, and has very limiting policies regarding trading and selling games. Just listen: You MUST register a game. To sell it, a gamestop will use MS' proprietary cloud Azure to deregister the game, or you can deregister it yourself.
Now imagine you are buying a game on ebay or craigslist. How do you know for sure that the game is deregistered? You don't. And you want to trade a game with a friend? You have to be friends for 30 days! And even then when you trade it in, MS takes a cut. How do you think that's going to effect gamestop business? They'll just up the price of used games to cover their own profit margin.
It's not about online passes. It's about OFFLINE passes. It means making it harder to lend games. It means making it harder to trade with friends.

The ps4 on the other hand, is a case by case basis. Not all games require online passes. A great very many games do not use them, and likely will continue to not use them. The xb1 takes that entire question oout of the equation and says every game, every time.

How are people so blind to this?
Expect similar policies? The very nature of the platforms contradicts that statement!
MS' entire strategy is to link every game to your account. The link is the problem. What aren't people getting here?
If anyone's going to have egg on their face, it's people doing damage control for the xb1 right now.

I don't think 3rd party publishers will make 1 locked down version and the other one open..It's a Pretty simple decision there Publishing wise: make them both locked down..

Anyway.. it's good to see that this thread is used to vent some peoples inner anger.. stay healthy

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Again this nonsense?! People just need to let it go really. They seem kind of obsessed with this B$. Since February Sony has said NO ONLINE; which means NO DRM.

How can people be so stupid (the one who wrote the article).

some of you guys need to read this thread...

Usually, they were the same sources. Sony rumors are desperate speculation while MS' are concrete... Come on dude. Again, I'm not saying it's real. Some of you are loosing it already over a rumor!

As for publishers... you mean the same ones who just recently publicly stated they have no problem with used market?

The same ones who said they'd strongly support the WiiU?

Indeed.   M$ policies of the XBO were leaked before the reveal. Meanwhile with Sony nothing like that leaked (because nothing like that existed); it was just speculation based on what M$ was doing because they can be that stupid to be doing this alone.

Looks like either supporters of XBO on the internet are just mad that M$ is the only one looking bad; and still trying to make people think that Sony is doing this;  or M$ is paying people to make this $hit up; so that Sony looks bad; even though Sony has said TWICE ALREADY THEY ARE NOT DOING THIS!

This kind of articles are just made with the reason to troll; and mention stuff like the publishers agreements so that they seem real.

M$ is just desperate.

Sony has said more than twice. Shit multiple people have said it more than twice

You think Sony lie to us back to back at E3, Interviews and everytime asked about this since Feb launch. This is BS, Sony clearly explained about everything, its only Third party publishers who can do something, if they do (thirdy party publishers)then I will quit those games because they are doing like this.

Sony's First and Second party games won't have anything like this so i'm safe which i'm interested in buying the PS4.

Look at these links which are from big sites which explains everything and don't be blind becoz xbone has this so you can damage PS4:

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

I'll take what Sony said as true for now, But I expect Sony to be pressuded by Third-parties to implement this.

They can't lie in front of millions of people like this. Playstation brande would be heavily damaged.
