Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Will Microsoft announce the $299 + $15/month Xbox One with Xbox Live deal?

Obviously MS does not need this deal to have a successful launch. The main buyers will be the hardcore followers for the first several months.

But after that, I expect to see MS roll out this plan to compete with the lower priced PS4. Either that or introduce a price cut in the first year. The amount of profits they are making at $499 has to be quite large and beneficial to their company, so I suppose any price reduction or subsidized method will rely on customer demand. It is starts to slow down, I think that will be their go-to plan.

What do you think?

I really feel they should release a sku without the kinect 2

Remember this prediction:

At E3 2014, MS will announce a new XBone sku without Kinect, retailing for $399.

And then at TGS 2014 Sony will announce a new PS4 sku, retailing $349.

That brings up an interesting point.  Sony has MS beat by $100.  I think next year we may see MS drop by $50-$100, and Sony just by $50.  So, it'll be the exact reverse of this gen.  Now, Sony has the price advantage, and I don't think they're going to let it go for at least 2-3 years.  Of course, I don't think the Xbox name is anywhere near as strong as the PS brand, so I don't think the Xbox One is going to do too well against a much cheaper PS4.

@ OP

They may roll that plan out, but I doubt it will be just a few months after launch.  Most likely in 1-2 years.  But a price cut next year is definitely likely.

Well I don't think they planned for it (at least not for it to release in the first year) but if sales are low (which is very likely considering the PS4 is $100 cheaper and seen as the better console for multiple reasons) then they certainly will do something like that to boost sales.

They won't do a Kinectless sku ever, it's integral to their whole overview of xbox now.

Agreed. The UI and more is based completely around it. It would be a backwards step as far as they're concerned.

I don't see them doing this so soon. They will let the console run at the current price, as early adopters are willing to pay a bit more. They may add it later on to give people more options.

My bet is, it won't do as badly as WiiU as it has a lot of games coming for it and third party propping it up. Holiday 2014 they'll cut price $100 and do a $299 subscription service, $10 a month for a year or something.
