Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo hardly showed anything new AT ALL; have they run out of ideas? (Rant)

What AM I saying? Didn't Nintendo show new things during their Nintendo Direct?! I'm going to argue that, no, no they didn't. The only new things they showed was X and Mario Kart.

We're finally seeing some change in the Mario Kart formula! This game looks bad ass and could very well be the best Mario Kart so far.

X is shaping up quite nicely! It has the graphics, it has the scope, it has the ambition, and if it's anything like Xenoblade it'll kick ass and take names. Final Fantasy better watch out!

But that's about it! That's all the new cool stuff Nintendo had to show us. Super Mario 3D World is more or less a glorified Super Mario 3D Land port from the 3DS (ergo, not new). Super Smash Bros (no matter how cool it looked and no matter how awesome Mega Man is) is nothing new, and we got a Donkey Kong game from Retro 3 years ago - AND that game is getting ported to 3DS - ergo NOT something new - and Wind Waker is looking fine as hell, but it's still nothing new (it's a REmake).

Where are the new IP's Nintendo?! Where are the new IDEAS?! Mario Galaxy felt fresh and exciting, because it was something new; it almost felt like a totally new IP. And that's what's so great with Nintendo; they can take something old and make it feel new exciting and at the same time keep that same old feeling.

I'm not seeing that. I didn't see anything new and exciting besides X and MK8. What happened Nintendo??

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

If by new you mean new ideas for games then they werent the only culprits, if you mean announced new games then I can count three new games getting announced (Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze) And no I dont count saying they have new 3d mario and mario kart as an announcement

Nintendo brought more to the table this E3 than the past two combined, so I don't wanna hear it.

I understand your frustration, but it's not like Nintendo is the only one guilty of reusing a successful formula.

Look at the other games at E3: Forza 5, Assassin's Creed IV, Metal Gear Solid V, Dead Rising 3, etc. Even new IPs like Ryse and 1886 look derivative. It's rare that a groundbreaking, game-changing piece of software comes out. The last one might have been Wii Sports, and that was seven years ago.

Well, I don't really see how this is different from past years...

But hey, X looks amazing!

Why do you guys keep whining about DK? The last new one was 3 years ago and no a port to 3DS is irrelevant because its a freaking PORT!

"Nintendo didn't show anything new."
"The only new things they showed was X and Mario Kart."

Okay... I see where this is going...

Dead Rising 3

Pffft. I'd be happy if Dead Rising 3 were derivative. Or, rather, if it were derivative of past Dead Risings instead of looking like I MAED A S4NDB0X GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES!!!1

I pretty much agree.  If only there was one new stunner.  3D mario as shocking as galaxy, or if Retro's game was something fresh.  3D world would look way better right now if it was backed up by something different and awesome from Retro.  Too much of the same right now, backed up by weak third party support.
