He got the $399 price point right on PS4 so....
Microsoft has a more complex APU, mainly due to the huge ESRAM and the inclusion of the Kinect 2.0(which has its own processor).

The APU + RAM costs less than $150... I will not be surprise if APU = $60 and GDDR5 = $80... it is 28nm with a simple and small chipe (< 300mm²).
The estimated BOM close to $300 for PS4 is close to reallity.
$549.00AU her in Australia so good old Sony gouging us a bit again. But alas, a far cry from the ridiculous $999.00 they gouged us with when the PS3 was released. MS have always been a bit fairer when it comes to pricing their consoles in Australia.
BUt I will pre-order a PS4 :)

I suspect he sells to his princely paying customers different numbers from those that he gives us for free.

If the initial kinect was sold at such high profit in terms of its costs and the initial launch price, I can see them inflating the X1 price by about $100 at least on top of the basic X1 cost, so the total cost for the console shouldn't exceed more than $399-450 if the PS4 are making a profit at $399 according to him. I think waiting for more sources would be great, he gets something right once in a blue moon, but the rest of his predictions are off by a longshot. If anything I think he got lucky with the $399 or got it leaked straight away, so just used his sources to make that prediction and worked out the cost by his own guesswork, which would most likely make it wrong.
Trusting Pachter just because he got one thing right is quite silly.

Maybe he could if gamers in return ask their elected MPs to approve a law that allow him to use slaves to develop games and/or to pay free ones with actual peanuts.

Don't forget to add PS+ and launch game purchases if you guys are trying to figure out if the PS4 sales will break even/profit.
