Smash 64 - Link
Melee - Link/Marth
Brawl - Wario/Sheik

Really hoping Link is improved in Sm4sh. He's so awful in Brawl.

From what we've seen, hes been buffed...its just a matter of how much.

Overall he is faster and has less lag on his moves. Also, his down air has meteor smash and his Up Special seems to have more power (similar to Melee).

Hmm.  He was "faster" in Brawl, running speed wise, but less lag sounds good.  The power of UpB isn't the biggest concern, it's if he can recover with it.  It was complete rubbish in Brawl.

Also noticed his dash attack is different and looks really powerful but very laggy, as powerful as down air was in Brawl(and probably as laggy).  No gripes with it if it's a viable option.

His tether recovery is better too (longer and more than one character can tether the same edge)

Really?  So ledgesnatching won't be possible in this game?

FYI: Ledgesnatching is a technique performed by standing at the edge and waiting for the opponent to recover and 'snatching' the edge, using invincibility frames  to keep them from knocking you off.

He was talking about tethering with the chain which is a different thing. However, ledgesnatching wont be a thing here, because, while you still have invincibility frames, if another fighter tries to grab the edge while you are on it, you will get popped off.

There have been a good number of complaints from competitive players, and this is one of the ones that seems like it could have the biggest effect on the game. On one hand, it promotes meteor smash attempts (and it seems the number of characters with meteor smashes has been greatly increased), but on the other hand, it takes away a previously viable technique. I'm not too sure how I feel about this yet...

"Tether recovery? Yes, you can! And from even longer range than before. Multiple fighters can latch on--who actually grabs hold is determined by the same rules as the standard ledge grab."

^^ That's what I was talking about.

Ledgesnatching(or edgehogging) is viable for sure but far too easy and pretty cheap.  It hurts the characters who struggle to recover to the point that some are bad BECAUSE they can't recover(Link is infamously notable of this in Brawl).  Using skill and meteors/spikes to defeat opponents is far more "fair" when playing competitively.

Yeah, thats true, and that is why I listed the fact that it encourages air combat as a positive...I just feel as if the "popping" mechanic seems like it could feel strange, which is why I need to really dig into the game to see how I feel about it. It is still up in the air for me (pun intended).

@Truck: Hmm, that pic was before the "popping" mechanic was confirmed so I wonder how they work together. If you grab the ledge first, will the other person drop, or will they have the opportunity to pop you off?

I see.  I assume you still cannot tether if someone is holding the edge?  In that case, use a recovery move and pop them off?
