The "Under 50 Bucks!" Atari 2600 redesign. Then I got a 7800 the next Christmas. By that time all my friends has NES and I had a paper route so I bought myself one of those. My next was a Genesis that I also bought myself, a PS1 that my friend bought me for my birthday, a Gamecube and a Wii.

SNES, good memories, great games. I still have it to this day.

BTW, looking at a someone's first console (+ their age sometimes) you can tell to what current console they have loyalty.

Not for the 2600 folks. We've seen too many companies rise and fall to call allegiance to any one brand.

At one point or another, my favorite console has been produced by Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Sony, or Microsoft.

I think you're dead on. The 2600 and older folks are usually beyond the grasp of brand loyalty, as

1) You kind of grow out of such things

2) There have been too many good games on too many consoles through all the generations that it would be nearly impossible at this point not to have stuck strictly to manufacturer forever and

3) I think people tend to gravitate towards what was popular in their youth

That those systems are dead already has nothing to do with it?... kidding kidding

I agree, especially to the third point. In my experience, the age group of the fans go like this: ~10 - Xbox, ~15 - PS, ~20 - Nintendo, >25 - PC/None. This is all anecdotal of course.

My family's first console was the NES. I then got an N64 at launch, despite never having had an SNES.

Alright a list of all my systems snes then I got the older nes and a 64. After like 2 years I also got a ps1. Then I got me a ps2 and a gamecube after that. I also had a gaming computer last generation. After that I got a wii then a 360 and now a ps3. Im catching up on some vc games and original xbox games so I basically have all those consoles too when they eventually release every single game or close to it.

Sega Genesis for me, but I was too little to know about all the games. Good memories with all the Sonics, Lion King and Aladdin though.

Woooo BASIC.  Thats actually what I started programming in (very young mind you, so nothing big deal >_<.)  Came standard on the Apple IIs.  Then you had QBasic on the old Dos/Windows boxes.  Good times...
