The sequel, exclusive to Xbox One, isn’t all dark and broody as gameplay footage suggests.
This is a browner Dead Rising than we're used to.
Dead Rising 3 has been announced as an Xbox One exclusive during Microsoft’s big E3 press conference, but footage of the sequel seems to put across a more sombre tone than previous games in the series.
“Dead Rising 3 takes the celebrated series in a new direction by introducing a cinematic storyline with darker humor and more personable characters fighting to survive in the new city of Los Perdidos,” states the official press release.
More Dead Rising 3 footage is likely to appear very soon.
The key word there is “dark” which isn’t at all what the previous Dead Rising games were all about and the gameplay footage pretty much backs up the series new direction.
According to Capcom’s Senior Online/Community Manager Brett Elston though, fans don’t have anything to worry about.
“DR3 still has silly stuff. We have months and months to dig into this,” Elston told his Twitter followers.
“For better or worse, AAA games have very long marketing/community/PR campaigns. That means beats of info. Reveals do only that – reveal.”
We love Dead Rising here at GamerZines and even though the revealed footage doesn’t quite follow the direction of the previous two games in the series, it’s easy to see where former GamesRadar US journalist is coming from.
For the Microsoft conference, Capcom wanted to show a new kind of Dead Rising leading on from the success of grittier zombie experiences like The Walking Dead, rather than get their existing fanbase enthralled as they are already on the hook. There was still the crazy item combination, lots of zombie genocide and a chatty protagonist which are all hallmarks of the franchise, but no confirmation on whether the controversial save system or time mechanic returns.
Dead Rising 3 will be available for Xbox One on the console’s launch day this November.
