As we all know, Microsoft posted all the details to clarify their stance on a variety of issues: online requirements, used games, sharing/renting/selling games, etc. I have seen a lot of confusion still, around the gaming sites, so I wanted to help lay it out for these people in a simpler context.

Another driving force for me making this thread is because I saw people on the news making ridiculous claims about not getting a new Xbox One because the Kinect is always watching and they don't like that. The amount of confusion and misinformation going around as a result of ignorant haters or people who are not up to speed on Microsoft's latest statements is so frustrating.

As theprof already sort-of stated, the cloud plays a large part and does address the majority of the concerns.

Online Requirements

  • The Xbox One requires a "check" to occur once every 24 hours, when gaming. Or once every 1 hour when gaming from a console that is not your own.
  • The purpose: To see if you have purchased new games, sold/traded any in, allow automatic updates to games, etc.
  • The Haters: Some people still don't have internet! Oh noz! My internet works 99.99% of the time but I will complain that on the rare chance it is off for over a day I will not be able to play! Xbox One failz!
  • The Solution: Microsoft has clearly stated that you can use cellular internet access to do these checkins. I realize that there are still many people out there without internet or are in rural areas where it is harder to get. However, cellular broadband has made great gains and while it still won't cover everywhere, it will decrease this issue quite drastically. Also, this is something easily changed and it could be extended, for example, to 7 days, or 30 days.

Game Sharing

  • The Xbox One allows you to play your games from any Xbox as long as you are signed in to your account.
  • It also allows you to share your games with up to 10 "family members" and they will all be able to play those games without needing to buy it. Also, from the way I understand it, you and one of your 10 family members will be able to play the game simulatneously. This may be wrong, but that's the impression I got so far.
  • The Haters: I can't lend my disc to my friend to play!
  • The Solution: While I do not know this for certain, based on what Microsoft will allow you to call a "family member" it seems to me that you can now share games with your circle of friends with ease! While the simultaneous usage may be limited to one or two people at a time (not sure on that detail), you would at least be able to loan your games with 10 people at a time, which is 10x better than loaning your game to one person, and being unable to play that game yourself in the meantime.
  • Some Possible Catches: Probably requires an internet connection and Xbox Live account. See above.

Used Games

  • The Xbox One allows games to be traded in/given away, with no fee. To trade them in requires a participating retailer. They are, however, leaving details up to publishers.
  • The Haters: But I can't sell them myself on ebay!
  • The Solution: This is one of the minor issues that doesn't really have a solution. But I also see this as a minor issue to begin with. If you are selling the game to someone you know, they just need to be on your friends list for 30 days. Then you would take their money and give them your game. This is something that could easily be changed/modified later.

Kinect Sensor

  • The Xbox One's Kinect Sensor is an integral part of the new Xbox One experience, and as such, is required to be plugged in to the console.
  • The Haters: Oh noz! The Kinect will be watching me and always be on! Someone will hack it and see me in the nude!
  • The Solution: Microsoft clearly stated that while the console is "off" the Kinect sensor is only listening for one command of "Xbox On". They also stated that the console is secure, the device is secure, and you are able to customize the Kinect security features at any time. You can "pause" the Kinect during gaming/media etc at any time to disable it from watching and listening.

The Cloud

  • The Xbox One will heavily use the cloud in many areas. Some games will use it for boosted performance, and as a result will require internet access. Other features include the sharing of your games with family, the auto-updating of games and environments when you are not playing them, allowing access to your content from anywhere you want without the discs.
  • The Haters: My internet is not fast enough for that! The Cloud would require too much speed/bandwidth! Xbox One is done!
  • The Solution: Microsoft clarified that for optimal performance you only need internet speed of 1.5Mbps. This is more than acceptable and this is just for "Optimal" performance. Cellular 3G has speeds of 1.5-3.5Mbps, while 4G speeds can range from 10-50Mbps! The slowest DSL offerings are usually at 1.5-3.0Mbps as well. You will likely only need a very short amount of connection to do the daily "check". A quick 3G cell phone connection and you're on your way.
As you can see, almost all of the horrendous worries about the Xbox One are completely put to rest. The only valid remaining concerns are if you have no internet available to you at all and to a lesser extent, used games/renting games/loaning games (family member sharing would resolve some of these).
If I missed anything else, please contribute so I can add it to this list.

This is the dealbreaker for me, and I ain't no hater. I like to carry my 360 to my friends house (Because they all have Ps3) where I don't want to put up with the hassle of connecting my console to my friend's broadband because no. I can put my 360 with the HDMI cable and the other thing I don't know what its name is that puts the machine onto electricity and that's it.

I really welcome your idea and I like that you put much time in this.

But I fear that this thread will go downhill just like the ones before.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

lol at the solutions

This is a new low.

so people who are not fond of MS's XB1 policies are haters now?

Sorry, I like to own my console...not be at the mercy of the company with a 24 hour "check-in"

damage control (noun)

: measures taken to offset or minimize damage to reputation, credibility, or public image caused by a controversial act, remark, or revelation

To be quite honest, you lose a certain amount of credibility when you try to paint anyone who is critical as being "a hater".

all those restrictions does not appeal to me one bit.

And you can since its your primary console it can be off line for 24hrs  so if your going use it pass that it probably wouldn't be that hard to connect for a min and then disconnect for another 24hrs
