Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last of Us - Misleading AI presentation at E3 2012? [reddit.com; no spoilers]

lol so because some random person posts this on reddit it must be completely true and completely invalidates reviews that speak of the opposite

well regardless this will give the haters who were never going to buy it anyway something to latch on to

edit: lol... apparently the person who made that post didn't even play the game; his cousin did

yeah when i played through the game i also missed the stuff i was expecting a.i. wise. game is truly amazing but enemy a.i. is nothing special.

i mean, i played it on hard and have a cast on my left hand. couldn't be so smart enemies. maybe on survivour?

Killzone 2, guys. Awesome game, but the E3 footage...

There was one part in the game (about halfway through) where there is a 2 story building and several human enemies in it. I went upstairs and was spotted by one of them. There were enemies coming from several different places. Sometimes an enemy with a melee weapon would sneak up on me. There were enemies with melee weapons asking for cover fire from enemies with guns so that they could get close to me and beat my ass (which they did a couple times). Several different things like that. This was on normal.

The enemy NEVER tries to post up in a room and ambush you, they definitely NEVER run away and hide to preserve their own life, and they NEVER beg for their own life after being beaten to the ground and having a gun pointed in their face. So I have to ask, why was this issue completely overlooked by those who reviewed the game?

The only part of the AI that I have actually seen working in action is how they freak the hell out when you take one of their guys hostage, they rarely respond to hearing you try and fire an empty weapons, and they do sometimes flank you. Nearly everything we have seen so far concerning the human AI in this game has been completely misleading. It's apparent to me now that everything we saw at E3 was completely scripted and the AI we were shown at e3 is not the same that is in the full game..

I'm sorry if this seems like an over reaction, but this awesome human like AI was a massive selling point for me and I am beyond disappointed to see that none of it ever actually existed.

@ bolded: WHAT!?!?!?!?!? I'm not calling you out but that's alwyas happened in my play throughs...

I can tell you how many time I was about to be flanked only for ellie to yell "behind you"(usually the melee and or molotolvs guys do this) Enemies have always run either to get a better shot or to hide, many times when I pulled out a gun or quickly killed someone with a firearm you'd hear "oh shit! he's got a gun" and the whole combat changes. and I i've actually have had enemies beg for their life(ironically one time it happened in the hotel just like the E3 demo,)also when you take a hostage/shield you can hear the AI yell "let him go" or "calm down, everything's cool"; what's bad about this that the AI practically  stand still making for easy headshots. and the enemy does sometims does charge into basically a killzone.

not saying the enemy AI is perfect but it's one of the best I've seen in gaming

OT: I would agree the the E3 demo was slighty more scripted than the actual scene that happened, albiet we can clrealy see that this is a different build than what we got in the final version(but man I'd like to have that crafting interface than the one now.)

it did look extremely scripted

The AI was a mixed bag in my playthrough, Sometimes they were really smart. (flanking me, Surrounding me, Running when I pilled out a gun!) Sometimes they were just plain stupid.

that certainly isnt how the AI functioned when i was playing on hard. taking all that time to hit me, its obviously on easy mode.
