Forums - Microsoft Discussion - leaving MS consoles after ten+ years

After ten years as a Live subscriber (will be 11 this fall) and owning an XBOX and an XBOX 360, purchasing 61 xbox 360 game (4 used) and 34 xbox games (3 used), I am now planning on leaving console gaming after reading http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/06/microsoft-details-xbox-one-used-games-always-online-and-privacy-policies/

before reading that i had hoped that the XB1 release event was just an unfortunate prelude to some good info at E3 and still hope for change, but the terms MS is coming with the new box are too much. I now plan on sticking my money where my mouth is and not join the next gen, for the first time since i was 5 with an NES and not be a console gamer (MS makes up about half my console gaming life.... and i will be sad not to finnish the new halo saga).

I do not understand MS current desire to ruin their brands something they have worked so hard to build and attack people to.  it has been apparent since the New xbox experience that something was changing i hoped it would be a + in the long run an add on to the great gaming ecosystem I enjoyed but now i see a company not understanding a market and trying to force it to their will.

I see this as a move much like coke made with NEW coke, but not something as easy to fix due to MS being unable to say they have done wrong.

perhaps i should not care as much, but console gaming has been a friend who was there after every move to a new and sometimes unfriendly place when i was younger. for now i will continue to use and play the 360, and enjoy a back catalog on my ps2, sb, and SNES… maybe look into getting a PS3 until next next gen….

edit, another thought, how many others are leaving (esp those with 10+ years )? i saw Wick on FB saying no to the next box

I won't say I'm leaving the Xbox brand until I see what they offer at E3. So in 3 1/2 days my mind will be maid up.

I find myself in the same boat, a majority of my games have been on x360 and i loved the original xbox. it just sucks, but i will not bend on this.
one main reason is where i live, its hurricane season, the generator doesnt make the internet work. might lose power tonight from the tropical storm, the grounds wet, trees will be falling allover the place, so if power did go out and say it was worse than anyone expected and it was days with no power and net which has happened, i would have a whole weekend with a game system i couldnt even play because it hasnt checked in. not to mention a full blown hurricane it could be weeks. this isnt everyones problem, i understand that. but its big enough for me not invest in something like that. plus the gamefly and used game thing is a complete turn off even more, and the kinect tax , i dont even want it, i dont use the one i have.

these are not fanboy reasons or trolling or anything like that, its a real life situation and it is not something that would be in my best interest in my opinion.

I didnt leave xbox, xbox left me.

Where do you live? (if you don't mind me asking). I have a similar concern with this machine since one of the countries I live in is prone to hurricanes. From past experiences I have had power in the aftermath but not the internet , and for a lengthy period of time too.

I find myself doing the same if MS really goes through with this, I loved the 360 but I can't support what they're doing with the Xbox 1.

I welcome you to Nintendo

Can't really say I blame you, but from a business standpoint MS wants to make as much money as possible
- Charge yearly for Live
- Attract people to buying NEW games, used market only gave developers money VIA DLC

I feel for the people who can't get broadband internet and/or live in a region that has unstable internet. Hurricane season is no joke, even in CT I lost power for a week and with a generator I still would have been SOL.

It's just that simple.

Florida, i think it was back in 2005 we had 4 or 5 hurricanes swing through that year, memory is abit fuzzy due to the small influence of alcohol, but i do remember it really sucking, hot and humid misery for days.

That would be a mighty big brick on the tv stand during the summer if that happened again.

dont blame u one bit i dont know what ms is thinking tt
