Actually the games department has been a bigger chunk of Sony than in the past. Their electronics isnt doing that great these days and they need and its not that they dont make it quality stuff, they just make the average consumer pay too much for it when theres other alternatives. When I asked the question about what other areas is Sony majorly focusing on outside of games for the console. I said the console...I am not talking abou the brand. We know MS's major interests are outside of gaming and they made that abundantly clear with the Xboxone, byt trying to undercut Apple & Samsung in one fell swoop. That is the definition of spreading yourself thin.

Of course MS has major interests outside of gaming. Things that bring in more money than gaming. Sony has major interests outside of gaming as well. Like movies/music and selling life insurance. Especially the insurance part, since they make more money as an insurance company than anything else. You can try to sugarcoat Sony's intentions and strategy all you want but the fact of the matter is these are two big companies who exist solely to try and make money off of consumers.

As for focuses as it pertains to the console, without detailed documentation regarding how much each of the big 3 spend on all avenues of their consoles, you're just peddling off your opinion as fact.

There better be games that will bring the casuals towards the Xbox One in droves because they will not shell out $500 for a settop box console without kinect games. Yes, games are needed to even convince most non-gamers to game. Kinect will probably have 5-6 titles for casuals out of the 15 exclusives so hopefully at least two are a hit.

As for Sony, I didn't sugarcoat a thing. If saying Sony was being gamercentric....you obviously didn't see the both of their reveals. I am just telling you what you never want to hear.

So MS is FORCING it, Sony is ALLOWING it and Nintendo is saying, GTFO. Looks like Nintendo is standing up for the entire industry. I guess I'm going exclusively Nintendo this gen. It's time to make a stand.

The way you put that made Nintendo sound like complete bosses lol I like it!

Most people, including myself, felt that Nintendo's days of being a voice for the "core" gamer were WELL behind them. In the end though, it's the Wii-U that is the most "gamer centric" of the three consoles. How ironic and fitting is that? The company that saved consoles and started the modern era, is going to be the "last man standing" and stand up for traditional gaming as we know it.

I didn't read all the thread, but:

1) LOL at those desperately trying to spin this against Sony.

2) GameStop and other retailers having an important share of their profits from used games will obviously make everything possible to favour sales of games that don't block or hamper this business of theirs.

If ps4 won't win nextgen, there's certainly a malfunction in the gaming world.
I mean really it's flawless at the time being, we just need to figure out the price and then ps4 will rape its concurrents.

As a guy who has several Game devloper relatives I can tell you that a lot of Developer executies are happy about getting Money back but theyremain sceptical about the DRM Always online thing. This could have been done in a better way, Online passes was a great example

The thread title is misleading. His statement means that the PS4 will have drm against used games, it will just be up to the publishers. So most 3rd party games will block used games. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony blocked used games too, considering that they use online passes.

Add me! :)

I'm curious what they are going to do if they allow games to be installed on the system.. I guess something like what xbox 360 does? Where you have to put in the disc to run the game.

Clearly it does have DRM or the publisher wouldn't be able to use it if they wanted, awful thread title.

Saw this on reddit. It's funny watching people on there try to twist this around and still try to make Sony look bad.

In a way it still is, 3rd parties are allowed to do this.

And we all know EA and Activision will.

That means to a degree, Sony are supporting the used games DRM, which makes Nintendo the only console manufacturer this gen not to restrict used games to any degree.

Honestly I'm a bit bummed that Sony "kinda" is going this route. And will still require you to go online for certain games. So it looks like I'll be getting a PS3 and sticking with it. This sealed the deal on my PS4 purchase in the future.

I am reading this as you are boycotting PS4 due to this. If that is the case, please note that PS3 already has an online pass fee on multiplayer. That is on Sony first party and 3rd party games. So, if you are going to boycott PS4, then I would not recomend supporting PS3 either.

Problem being PS4's might be fully integratd on to the system hardware itself (by disk readers) while the online pass is a software issue.

Sony isn't supporting anything, but they need the third party stuff so MS can't say "Fifa is exclusive to Xbone" in Europe and "Battlefield is exclusive to Xbone" in the US.  That would make them get killed in 3rd party support.  It's not their fault if the 3rd parties are being dicks about it (I don't think most of them are and I think Sony could play chicken and say "you won't make as much money without PS" but alas they can't gamble with that much money and that many jobs).  Just EA pulling support would hurt them a lot but Activision too (I'm not sure if Activision will even do this)?  It's a sucky situation and I definitely respect Nintendo for going the way they did but I can't fault Sony for finding a middle ground to keep support either.

i'm glad Sony don't require it but i wish it wasn't allowed at all. I don't expect many publishers to do this, not many used online passes
