Forums - Gaming Discussion - Something tells me MS is going to buy up key third party titles exclusivity for next gen

From EA that is......I have a sinking feeling deep down inside that Microsofts most notable titles at E3 will be third party exclusives that they've purchased. I recall MS saying that they are spending a billion dollars in games and they have 15 exclusives coming out in the first year. The average AAA game costs 60 million so five of those cost well around 300 million which is around what MS paid for Rare. This leaves money to spend on two to three exclusives or timed exclusives and plenty left to spare on Kinect and XBLA titles which are dirt cheap compared and highly profitable to bank on. Halo 4's budget was over 100 million so my average could be wrong for the Black Tusk game. I am sure the third party + timed exclusive content for EA Sports MS is paying EA for could amount somewhere around 200-300 million all together.

Nothing is clear on this, this is just a feeling. What do you guys think?

well, "exclusives" tend to only last a year when they are third party..

Gears wasnt and I know MS will make less mistakes with giving their exclusives to PC.

I think it's a very real possibility. A few online retailers have listed Mirrors Edge 2 and Dragon Age 3 (both EA published games) for the X1 but not for the PS4.

Guess we will find out at E3.

Nothing would surprise me. They have a lot of monetary ammunition at their disposal, why not throw it around I suppose.

Gears technically wasn't exclusive, the first game launched on the PC. - Albeit relied on Games for Windows Live! (Icky!) and was a flop from a sales perspective, possibly due to the lack of Support, Advertising and no Steam launch.

Its an exclusive game. MS decided to let it go on PC. They just paid to keep it away from the PS3 and it became a staple of the 360 brand.

I can certainly see this happening, though I don't think Mirrors Edge 2 or something like that have any actual impact. Just my opinion

However, if I were going to buy the Xbox One I rather Microsoft buy exclusive games from 3rd parties than simply just DLC x amount of weeks before other platforms

There are rumors of Dead Rising 3 being an exclusive... EA is certainly getting comfortable with MS right now. They weren't present at the PS4 reveal and well, lets not even discuss EA on the WiiU...
