Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is The Last of Us gaming's Citizen Kane?

Is it? The first review claimed it was with a 5/5, but what do you think? Demo is out so we can form a good opinion on what it is gonna be.

Oh. Just played the demo, was short but SWEET

"short but sweet" is exactly how i'd describe it. I really want to play more :/

Lol.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

No. For it to be Citizen Kane has to deliver some hidden message that may mean everything or nothing at all.

As a fan of video games and movies, I can say with confidence that The Last of Us won't be the video game equivalent of Citizen Kane.

When it came out in 1941, Citizen Kane broke all the established rules of movie making. It was groundbreaking, on a technical level and in terms of its narrative logic. It influenced generations of creative artists, not only movie directors. And, until recently, it was generally considered the best movie ever made.

The Last of Us looks like a great game, but I don't think it will ever be considered the best game ever made. Nor will it break new ground for the medium.

I'd say gaming's citizen Kane was Battletoads

Reviewers, if you want to overhype a game, please use at least an analogy that makes sense for your and your audience's limited perception of the world.

Call games like TLOU the Dark Knight of videogames or whatever, but don't compare it to movies which made history.

I think a huge part of the problem with the games industry right now, is this pretense of "games as art", and trying to make them as cinematic as possible, trying to make them compete with the movie industry on that "blockbuster" level. It's a move away from focus on fundamentals, games that are FUN to play above all else.

And no, I'm sorry. I think the very notion of the question is kind of silly as hell, honestly.

I think the question is if games have had their "Birth of a Nation" equivalent from a technical perspective before we discuss a "Citizen Kane".

smh you cant be serious, more reason why I dont take reviews serious especially when it comes to a games narrative
