That's one way to do it. Or they could have it so games can't be installed and played without the disk, therefor not needed to do an always online console and isolating potential consumers.

True, but this will give you the option of switching between all your games on the fly.  No need to go sort down a disk or anything like that.

It's a trade off, and while it seems creepy, I doubt it will really be that inconvenient.  Usually, when I bring a game to a friend, I'm there to play it with them.  Not being able to loan is kinda of annoying, but the freedom of switching between games instantly seems like it will benefit me more.

It’s sort of a hybrid between all digital and current retail games.

What it is is all digital with a physical backup as opposed to a backup over the internet. I'm not even sure if they are seperating the two. You might be able to download a game you own at a friends house without needing the disk. Since the console requires internet connection, unless they eliminate the need after the consoles life span, the physical backups are not the same as having a phsyical copy. Their existence only facilitates quick installation without using bandwidth, in store retail presence, and a physical second hand market. Otherwise for all extents and purposes it is a digital only console. Selling rights to digital titles has been done on Steam and their are rumors MS might do the same. If true then the only thing MS is really doing is releasing a digital only console that has familiar in store software pressence.

They probably would have gone digital only if they could have retained software pressence on store shelves, but they don't want to risk that kind of advertising space and further reduce their target market even though they essentially are eliminating the greatest part of the physical advantage.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I know this sounds like a crazy concept, but how about we wait for an official statement from MS. When I say official, I'm talking about the company as a whole.

Simple question:

I have a friend Bob. Bob wants to let me borrow his FIFA 14 for X1 and I want to give him my Halo 5.

Can we play each other's games (at least the offline components) without being begged for a donation?

Thank you.

only if you trust your friend bob enought to give him your account name/password.  the game is tied to your account so you can only play your game at a friends house under your account or the full purchase price must be paid by your friend.

Thought so. I pass on this anti-gamer device that just wants to suck every dollar from us. I hope this console tanks so hard on release to make MS reconsider and acknowledge consumer power.

Vote with your wallets people. Don't be sheeps supporting an anti-gamer device like this.

Would you not give up your consumer rights and privacy in order to play Halo 12? Come on!

Seems you don't know how comfortable it is to be a happy slave.

Just search a big daddy(eg msonyntendo) who needs minions and than you only have to give him your money  and start to cheer each time he comes around with a new way of taking your money and rights away(hidden as service)That's so great-and not just being controlled all the day by my consol-cam,my handy,my tablett and my tv-even when i try to sell my game they know when i sell them and how much money i got.the system is so great that i even can't sell games without big brother.Just like it is written in the big black book:There'll be a time when people can't trade or sell without the mark of the beast.

Yeah, and while your friend Bob is on your account playing your games, you can't do shit with your console, because you also need to be logged in and be given permission to use any content in it.

So for the convenience of not having to swap disks you give up 99% of your ownership rights.

- No swapping with or lending games to friends and family.
- No selling on Ebay, no buying/selling consoles with a bunch of games
- No giving old games to friends to get them started and thus entice them to get the console too.
- Have to register every new game online before you can play.
- Have to log in every 24h to check if you are still allowed to play all your games (forget bringing the console to the cottage)
- Can only sell through approved retailers, removing all competition, and thus competitive pricing.
- New games can remain their initial price longer as the competition of second hand games is locked down.

Sounds like a fair trade.... for MS, publishers and Gamestop.

The retailers make money, the developers make money, you can still get used games cheaper than new. Sounds like a fairly reasonable deal to me.

Unless of course you're a game retailer like Game, Zavvi, CEX or HMV who have been using money gained from used game sales to keep afloat. 10% will very likely put these companies under and £35 is way too much for the majority of second hand games. This story has to be a load of old bollocks, those numbers can't be correct.

Well, the other way is to make things all digital and no reselling of games and not retailers.  Between that and this proposal.  I think it's better for the developers that they at least make some money off their games.

And this will still keep retailers in business.

I'm more annoyed that I can't play my Acrade X360 games on the new X1.  That doesn't seem right to me.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Can i register this game as deactivated with azure myself?, in the few times i have sold stuff, i don't want no pitiful price Game offer, i sell them on EBay for what its actually worth.

Sounds like yes you can.  You just have to 'unhook' the game from your account.  I have bought a few games off Ebay myself.

And there is a chance that Kinect will recognize you and Bob can't play your game without you in the room.

It all sounds like a heck of a lot of work they have put into this system, when what the people really want is what we already have on the 360 & ps3.
