so let me get this straight when i purchase a second hand game from Gamestop.. I would need to pay an additional fee to MS for activation. 

second scenario and the most important one for me.. I m kind of guy who's always into new IP's, so say I have  Quantum break and one my friends want to trade a game with me, even for that we would have to buy each others copy and pay extra!?

only if you trust your friend bob enought to give him your account name/password.  the game is tied to your account so you can only play your game at a friends house under your account or the full purchase price must be paid by your friend.

Thought so. I pass on this anti-gamer device that just wants to suck every dollar from us. I hope this console tanks so hard on release to make MS reconsider and acknowledge consumer power.

The retailers make money, the developers make money, you can still get used games cheaper than new. Sounds like a fairly reasonable deal to me.


Unless of course you're a game retailer like Game, Zavvi, CEX or HMV who have been using money gained from used game sales to keep afloat. 10% will very likely put these companies under and £35 is way too much for the majority of second hand games. This story has to be a load of old bollocks, those numbers can't be correct.

I knew they wouldn't dare cut GameStop out. Microsoft is all about big business.

Unfortunately, however, they've always been about crushing small business, which this does. Have a small, local business where you like to trade games? Yeah, they're probably dead. Want to handle it yourself on eBay, Amazon, or any of the nifty trading sites (which I use)? Sorry, you're screwed.

I really, really don't like this, and I'm not even opposed to developers/publishers somehow getting a cut of the used game market. Just not like this, not in a way that FORCES you to only use screwjob corporations like GameStop.

I dearly hope that either Sony stays away from this model or that Microsoft releases further details that make this more palatable.



£35 for a used game? Fuck off. I dont pay that for a new game. Shit idea is obviously shit.

Can i register this game as deactivated with azure myself?, in the few times i have sold stuff, i don't want no pitiful price Game offer, i sell them on EBay for what its actually worth.



£35 is way too much. The 2nd hand market will simply die.

Here is the kicker.

The Developers/Publishers/Microsoft have already BEEN paid when a customer purchases a game/license, when the customer goes to sell it to someone else they effectively transfer that license again, why the heck do the Publishers/Micrososft think they are entitled to that transaction? It really has nothing to do with them anymore.

It never happens with any other product as far as I know. - For example cars, once you sell it to someone else, the original car manufacturer doesn't get a piece of that sale again, it's bluntly none of their business what happens to it after the original purchase.

It's double dipping, it's going to drive prices up for allot of consumers who rely on the second hand gaming market giving them less money to spend on other games.

It's infinity dipping. Anytime this same game has to be re-bought and re-sold by Gamestop or whomever it needs to get on and off the Azure system which means money for MS/Publisher each time.

Now I know why insiders leaked the name INFINITY. O_O



It still limits legitimate gamers. The only way to do this is by going through a specific retailer or possibly Microsoft themselves. Selling used games on eBay/Amazon from regular people will no longer be a viable option. Gamestop over prices used games like no tomorrow. Go to their store and take a peek at used games. You can go on the internet and find them cheaper in NEW condition.

I like the fact that developers get a portion of the fee, but the fact that the consumer has to pay for the used game itself and possibly an activation fee ontop of it is ridiculous.
