Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why Xbox One Is Better Than PS4 - Hint: The Future of Consoles Isn't Gaming

Thoughts?

Video chat is better than gaming! 25 15.72%

I got 86 channels, and you?! 9 5.66%

I send devices home! 6 3.77%

What are you looking at!!! 22 13.84%

??! 97 61.01%

Total:159

Can we please stop with these type of threads. I understand many of you all love these console wars and all, but it really all comes down to opinion. Games are games. So stop with all the bickering between this is better and that is better because of this and that.

The future of gaming is not gaming

Sad to say it but...with these non-gaming features MS might have this (in the states). Third time the charm huh?

I'm fairly certain that the Xbox One is going to run into a problem that the PS3 has been facing since it launched. It's focusing heavily on that media hub. There will be a lot of people out there that purchase it solely for the ability as a means to watch movies or such as the cable box focus. The PS3 in contrast was bought by many people who wanted the machine solely for a blu-ray player.

In the console market, the money is found in the attach ratio. I personally own about 55+ PS3 games, whereas the average is around 6 I believe? Centering on that media hub focus may be a factor that hurts the Xbox One more then it helps it. The PS3 for the entirety of this generation has had a poor attach rate in comparison to the Xbox 360 which was more focused on gaming for the majority of its lifetime.

Time will tell, and it will surely be interesting too see.

So the future of gaming isn't to game.....lol please.

The problem with trying to be "smart TV" or whatever Microsoft wants to call it is that there are at least a dozen companies trying to do that now, hundreds more that have tried and failed in the past (including Microsoft), and cable providers perceive every attempt as a threat, so they work super hard to make sure nobody ever does succeed. So far they've been very effective.

Honestly, it's not even clear that the general public even wants computing in their TV. Paraphrasing Steve Jobs, people go to computers to turn their minds on, people go to TV to turn their minds off.

I'm excited for the Xbox One cuz of its features. As gamers age, gaming time decreases. So by creating a media hub, we older gamers will continue to buy console and games. Very smart business decision.

So it's gonna fail like ouya, because they try to alienate an overcrowded market ?

I'm buying my consoles for the sole reason they were invented for, and that's gaming. I don't care for music on them, i don't care for being able to rent movies, and i definitely don't care about my console being a TV set top box. I have skyplus for all my TV needs which has over 400 channels.
I want my Console to focus on the thing i bought it for, gaming, thats why and going with Sony.

However, i do think that Microsofts obvious plan of expanding there machine to non-gamers will work and that will result in it possibly selling more than the PS4 next gen, but over 90% of the PS4 sales will be by core gamers that have bought the machine for that sole reason, so will more than likely sell more software.

I guess people thought gaming consoles were going to always be dedicated to gaming only. If you just look at PS3 and 360 they both have started to dabble in apps, movies, tv, music etc.... Xbox One and PS4 are just taking it a step further while still focusing on games. I don't see the negative in that.
