Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor: Retail sources detail how pre-owned sales will work on Xbox One

......this is a retailer problem. Essentially they make profit, just less, and the royalties to back to the 3rd parties, Sony, and MS. The gamer still trades in his game, lets back a fraction of the origional cost, and he goes about his way.

I hope I don't have to say this to every Sony fan....if true, this means its a retailer problem, not a gamer one.

Regardless of what you believe, this is a gemr issue. With Gamestop, Bestbuy or any other retailer in their program as your ONLY avenue for trading in your games, they can give you whatever they want and now you are unable to go searching for different avenues in order to maximize on your return.

So if they all decide, you only get $2 for a trade-in, guess what? That is all you get.

How could you possibly sit here and try to tell people that this onyl effects the retailers? This is obviously a shitty deal for gamers and gamers alone.

I agree with this.. its pretty ridiclous that Games haven't gone up with the inflation rate.. Movie ticket have always been inflation adjusted:

While games haven't...

Pffft. Whatever, iOS boy. You don't even play games that cost money, so you don't get to talk about inflation.

one more thing, what happens when the system and games are discontinued? a game is supposed to be playable forever, now once support for the xone is over, the games are either stuck to their owners or lost forever.

My snes and N64 collection was 90% obtained in the last decade as used games. with xone that won't be possible.

At that point you are subjected to pay whatever MS wants you to pay for those no longer retail available titles.

Just go buy some lube dude, the ramming is going to be rough.

This is awful. It's like you don't even own the games any more if you can't lend them to friends or sell them to whomever you want.

Not to mention this system will probably alienate many countries that don't have these major retailers.

If that's an issue for you, then your best bet would be to simply not buy a console that relies on cloud computing.

The DRM stuff, they can eventually remove that if they want via updates.

My comments about buying from non retailers stems from my assumption that the logic is as such:

Put disc into xbone
Checks if game is associated with a different account, if so, require additional $35 (or some fee sane as borrowing the game)

The only way to buy a used game and guarantee that the previous owner unassociated their account (and thus not pay double) would be to buy from a retailer since the retailer can unassociate the game itself. All person to person reselling would become untrusted and die. Bleh

not just person to person.  when i got rockband 2 it came with a code to download 20 songs or whatever for free.  i noticed that the box was a little beat up but gamestop assured me that they were selling me a "new" product not a used one.  got home and someone had already used my song download code tying it to another account.  no amount of complaining to EA got my code to work and gamestop refused to help either.

i was so fucking pissed.

I am sorry.

I can't name the amount of times I opened the cases on the shelves at Gamestop and took pictures of the codes inside. :/

Great....so I can go pay Gamestop $30 for a used game that's been out 7 years.

One of my all time favorite games, perhaps 2, Dragon Force (Saturn) and Lunar SSSC + Lunar EB, I bought and sold those games on ebay so many times over the years, if I could not do that, it would be a travesty when your copy broke, was lost or something, imagine all those classics, and as they become classic, they may cost more

I can't believe there are people actually defending this awful decision made by Microsoft when it's not hurting anyone but the gamers. It's not like when you sell your car or a DVD you have to pay to the "publisher" a fee, why should the gaming industry be different, just because some company wants to make profit where they don't have the right to?

Well, I must say I actually expected this, since "gamers" seem to like being ripped off by that DLC crap, online passes and the price increase last gen had, blocking used games is probably nothing to them. I just hope that the majority of consumers, the guys who don't come to gaming forums, are smarter than some of the people here and realize how anti-customer this decision is.

Whoever suggested in this thread that retail would get 10% of the final transaction is out of his mind.

Retail will get between 30% and 50% , if it's anything less no retail outlet will support this...
That's just the way retail works...... You can't run a business on 10%

It just keep amazing me how few people understand how retail works..............

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
