Forums - Gaming Discussion - Am I the only one who doesn't understand people saying the PS4 reveal was amazing compared to Xbox One?

Why are you saying Microsoft did a great job selling to the masses? The public/masses/casuals DON'T watch these types of events. They don't even watch E3. Most of them don't even know what E3 is.

The audience for events such as these are core gamers.

Casuals won't hop on till they start seeing commercials/hearing celebrities endorse/everyone and their mother starts talking about how hip or trendy it is.

Because the masses saw it. The video was right on the dash as soon as you boot up the 360 on repeat.  Also MS posted TONS of it on Facebook and mainstream media picked up on it and posted articles everywhere.

And they saw it. Day 1 of taking people on the wait list was huge. The console will sell awesome in NA.

I thought the PS4 reveal was pretty good. Maybe mot ''amazing'' but it was good. It dragged abit at times, and the dramatic performances before showing Infamous and Watch Dog did'nt do it for me tho lol.

My thoughts:
-Killzone litteraly made the presentation, showing what the PS4 can do. W/o Killzone, it would have gone from ''pretty good'' to ''disapointing''.
-Infamous reveal was nothing but CGI so did'nt care much for it, I do understand ppl who are excited for a new entry tho.
-Knack looked like a mediocre platformer.
-I seriously don't give a f*** about how many little blue balls you can drop at the same time on the system.
-I seriously don't give a f*** about seeing a old man's soul through his lively eyes surounded by wrinkle. That's just some shallow snob way of protraying gaming, I will never notice any ''lively eyes'' or wrinkle while I'll be playing, the only place it will be noticible will be in the cutscenes. But to be honest I never give a f*** about anything Quantic Dream ever say or do.
-Drive Club looked interesting, I'm curious about the sharing and multiplayer aspect of the game, don't care much about the gameplay since I'm not a huge fan of driving games.
-Speaking of sharing, the interface and the video sharing looked really great. I'm excited about it.
-Diablo, don't care and I think it's a waste of time, I don't see alot of ppl caring for it since It's already old, the critical reception was terrible and It's fanbase is on PC, I don't see anyone jumping from PC to PS4 for this game.
-Destiny, after many months, I still don't know what this game is really about. Can't say I'm excited for this game yet, but my mind remains open.
-Square Enix: Lol indeed.
-Deep Down, those graphics were phenomenal, video seemed to hint that it was gameplay footage, I'm looking forward to see more. But as long as I don't know anything about concrete gameplay informations, I can't say if I'll be buying it or not. Looked like Skyrim, if it's like Skyrim Idc since I did'nt like it that much.

Because you're a troll... Sony showed games for the PS4...GAMES!!! FOR GAMERS!!!!

Then MS showed TV stuff...TV STUFF!! FOR GAMERS?!!! WTF?!!

I finally see you're true color as an XBOX FANBOY and a TROLL!!

Only a hardcore XBOX FANBOY such as yourself can say that the XBOX ONE reveal was better when clearly it wasn't even targeting gamers. YOU SIR ARE A XBOT FANBOY TROLLING SONY who is blinded by his MS Goggles...

TROLLOLOLOLOLOLLLLL!!!!!

ALL HAIL MUGEN!!!!!

Hahahaha this is hilarious.

Both conferences were underwhelming.

For most gamers though, i think Sony's was preferred for the focus on games.

I haven't seen much people saying Sony's reveal was mind blowing or anything like that...but there's been a tone of people absolutely hating the MS reveal.

The people who would follow MS on facebook would be *drumroll* 360 fans

and the people who would see it on the 360 dashboard would be *drumroll* 360 fans.

You said Sony did a better job focusing on core gamers. So are you saying that the 360 fanbase is full of people who aren't core gamers?

Of course the 360 fan base is filled with casual / mainstream gamers.

at least 50 million of the sold 360's were not sold to "core" gamers.

As others already stated. Sony showed games, and made it a point to address the fact that a lot of the problems the PS3 faced early on won't be happening with the PS4. Sonys entire focus was games and gamers.

The thing is, you say Microsoft wasn't aiming at gamers with their reveal. Okay, who were they aiming at? Because casuals sure don't watch stuff like this, same for E3. Casuals don't even know what E3 is lol. The audience at these type of things is always real gamers.

EDIT: Also, what do you mean by retail view? Early adopters are NOT casuals, which is who Microsoft aimed their presentation at. Early adopters are the core gamer, which Sony focused on.

Exactly this! I think this covers it really. The "core gamers" are the vast majority of the people watching these reveals, and are the ones that tell all their friends about it and make the most noise on the internet. And the main things they want to know is that you are fixing the problems from last gen and bringing the games.

PS4 reveal addressed the mess that was Cell and RAM issues, didn't go insane with specs so price is sorted, and spent most of the time showing games. So it was a decent, well received showing.

X1 reveal didn't address anything. Nothing about bringing more value to LIVE to make it competitive again. And all they said about boosting their first party IP was 30 seconds of "15 exclusives, 8 new IP we promise! We are spending more money than ever" which was "please be excited" x100! If they had dealt with these problems, it would have been passable at worst.

PSN: Osc89

NNID: Oscar89

Sony shows games, gameplay, videos the possibilities that come with next gen, vs MS who only showed videos zero gameplay and every bit of 37 minutes of entertainment out of an hour.

Sony seems in touch with the fact that the people watching the show arent casuals. Well at least the standard media was there.

Honest question. I simply don't understand why people are acting like the PS4 was this incredible mind blowing showcase.

At the PS4 conference they showed

Knack - Which looks like it could be a decent little platformer

Killzone - Looked great but was expected and nothing revolutionary

Infamous Second Son -same as Killzone

Drive Club - could be a good racer. Not much was shown

Diablo - Which will be multi platform

Destiny - multiplat

Deep Down - likely multiplat

Square Enix - Lol

And good specs.

MS showed a new core IP from Remedy, an improved Kinect, the actual console, a new great controller, a sequel to the biggest gaming franchise in the world with exclusive content, a highlight real of the biggest sports games on a new engine with exclusive content, Forza 5 sequel to the highest average Meta racer ever, 15 exclusives in the first year, NFL partnership, Halo TV show, cool media features.

To me its clear MS focused on mass market and did a better job selling to them than Sony did. That being said Im NOT saying they had a better conference for gamers. In fact Sonys conference was probably better from a "gamers" perspective

Still if you read the comments you would think Sony showed ultra megaton after megaton. Which frankly didnt happen. It looks like a solid system for gamers but honestly wasnt all that impressive either.

E3 should be much better for MS and Sony.

Sony's conference gave a far better taste of what is to come for the platform, especially when it comes to games. It felt more focused. KZ may look like "another shooter" but at this point don't they all??? Infamous continues to be a shining point of what is possible in an open world. The trailer was in-game, and particle effects being pulled off in that series are truly something to marvel......plus they are just great games. Knack was to appease a certain crowd that Sony finds themselves neglecting every so often, later interviews revealed something interesting about it. Sony says Knack felt riminicent of Crash Bandicoot, and thats what swayed them. We shall see on that of course. Drive Club is filling a void that will be left by no big racing title for the console just yet, but will be a perfect showcase of power.

Nevertheless, they all felt like really solid Launch games, the kind of which you rarely see. Most console launches are terrible and only have 2 noteworthy titles at best. Sony assured that there is at least 4-5 there for you.

Everything Sony talked about was just....positive. Other than no BC, there was not a single dark spot in it. Gamers like the idea of sharing, eliminating load times, being able to get to the games faster than ever, etc.

MS, had way too many sour points like DRM and envasive tech holding their conf back. Would have liked to see something outside of MS's typical (COD and Forza....)Neither of their shown exclusives excited me or anyone really, and when you remove that it was just multiplats.
