Japan's population is double the UK and for home consoles you're talking 23.6 million sold in Japan and 23.5 in the UK. Soon enough even with double the population, Japan will be behind the UK. Furthermore we're saying Japan is not important to MS. They have 1.6 million sold there all generation. In the UK they have almost 9 million. How is that relateable at all?

Plus, home console sales in Japan have been down 2 generations in a row. A small percentage from generation five to six, but so far in generation seven, the drop is over 21%. And there's no evidence it won't be even worse next gen. I don't think VGChartz has UK numbers going back that far but I doubt you can say the same about that market.

Japan is already irrelevant for MS and soon enough it will be for Sony as well.

U mad bro? I really don't care. Just stating that Japan isn't irrelevant as was said before. I'm sure MS wish it had sold 8 million more consoles in Japan. Just like Sony wish it sold more in America or the UK or even it's home country. Just stating facts is all. No blinders here.

I understand exactly what you're trying to say. And I am just letting you know you're wrong. Numbers don't lie, bro.

I'm not wrong about anything. Just stating that Japan isn't irrelevant. I'm sure MS is happy it still sold 1.6 mil XBox 360s and 12 mil in software. They put a dent in an extremly tough market to sell. Maybe they won't try as hard this time to push the XBox brand in Japan, but they still have the potential to sell 1 mil + to the Japanese fans they made over the years. As long as they don't push a big campaign like they did with the 360 in Japan; I'm sure MS would love to sell 1mill XBox One consoles for profit.

I'm almost sure that even though console sales shrunk in Japan over the years into a more handheld driven market. The XBox actually grew as a brand from the Original XBox to the 360. Seems like there could be some potential. Maybe just pocket change to MS. I'd rather have pocket change than nothing at all. Just a thought. I'm not saying your wrong either as I completely understand where your coming from. Really I care less what MS decides to do in Japan.

Market trends can also have an adverse effect over the years. As of right now the UK is growing in console sales, while Japan is shrinking. I've been a member of this site for more than 6 years (my other profile is Nanaki XII that I lost my email and password to). I know exactly how all these numbers work. Things change and some don't. But nothing is irrelevant.

FootballFan - "GT has never been bigger than Halo. Now do a comparison between the two attach ratios and watch GT get stomped by Halo. Reach will sell 5 million more than GT5. Quote me on it."

Just because xbox360 sales is not good in that region doesn't mean that region is irrelevant. It means that its sales is not good compared to other gaming devices that runs circles around it over there. Trying to sugar coat it is not going to hide that.

For Sony or Nintendo, sure Japan might be important. But even for them numbers are down and will continue to drop next gen. For MS the region is entirely irrelevant. They will release the console there and it will sell some but they won't cater to them in any meaningful way or try very hard to do a thing there because it is a waste of time for them.

wha? Japan is still more important country than the UK. MS will end the generation last in hardware sales. You can't ignore the 2nd largest market in the world and finish on top. While Japan has moved more onto handhelds than other countries, it's still a large market.

More important to home consoles by 100k units with double the population? And those 100k units could easily be erased before this year is over.

Japan is irrelevant to MS. That doesn't make it irrelevant to Sony or Nintendo (though, for home consoles, it is shrinking to that point anyway). They won't make serious efforts like they did with 360.

Why MS waste resources and money in advertisement in trying to attract the Japanese market? I think its more like MS is irrelevant to Japan at this point.

And after wasting that this gen, I doubt they're going to make as much of an effort this gen. And whether you want to say Japan is irrelevant to MS or MS is irrelevant to Japan, you arrive at the same conclusion.
